SUMMARY
Housing & Neighborhood Services focuses on creating vibrant diverse neighborhoods through the delivery of five major service areas: Community Engagement which works to create successful neighborhoods where people of diverse backgrounds and incomes can build successful lives; Code Enforcement which works to improve the appearance of communities and maintain standards of living; Housing Services which provides housing and other programs and services for families residing in the City of Charlotte; CharMeck311 which provides important information and services for customers in the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County; and the Office of Youth Opportunities which works with youth and young adults in the community to provide resources and opportunities for growth and upward mobility.
Summary:
The Community Engagement division of the City of Charlottes Housing & Neighborhood Services Department is a recognized leader in the area of empowering residents and youth to engage through leadership development and proactive community improvement through our model of information sharing inclusion planning resource delivery and celebration of community efforts.
The Neighborhood Training and Development Program Coordinator is part of the Neighborhood Resources Team and reports to the Neighborhood & Community Partnership Manager.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Neighborhood Training and Development Program Coordinator will provide professional level service to accomplish the following:
Training Program Coordination: Coordinate the development implementation and evaluation of year-round training opportunities. Collaborate with community stakeholders to identify training needs and design programs tailored to address them. Utilize adult learning theory and best practices in training methodologies to ensure effectiveness. Manage all aspects of training logistics including scheduling venue coordination and resource allocation. Leverage technology platforms and digital tools to facilitate virtual and hybrid training delivery manage participant registration systems and streamline program administration.
Program Management: Serve as program coordinator for the Neighborhood Board Retreat and Neighborhood Leadership Academy overseeing distinct programmatic needs for each initiative and managing budgets for both programs. Coordinate all aspects of the biannual Board Retreat including event development promotion logistics planning facilitation vendor coordination attendee and media correspondence and quality control of reports and materials. Develop curriculum for the Leadership Academy facilitate multi-session program delivery coordinate guest speakers and subject matter experts and provide participant training and mentorship throughout the academy cycle. Provide ongoing follow-up support to participants from both programs to reinforce learning assist with practical implementation of skills and strategies and ensure sustained engagement with program concepts. Maintain high standards for program execution participant experience and alignment with divisional goals across both signature initiatives.
Communication & Marketing: Develop and maintain print and digital marketing materials including event flyers training calendars and neighborhood resource directories. Regularly communicate engagement and training opportunities to residents staff and partners through multiple distribution lists. Collaborate with Strategic Support to implement multi-channel promotional strategies across social media email website and community networks to drive awareness and maximize participation in divisional training and engagement programs.
Community Engagement: Serve as a liaison between residents and City departments as well as between the city and partnering organizations. Organize information and prepare and make presentations to individuals groups and council committees. Provide support to the Civic Leadership Academy and complementary Community Engagement programs
Data Collection and Management: Collect organize and manage data related to training programs community engagement efforts and grant monitoring activities.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Understanding and experience with adult learning theory
Understanding and experience with training concepts; assessments design delivery and evaluation techniques
Understanding and experience with facilitation methods and tools
Ability to recruit train and oversee volunteers
Ability to identify community partners and create partnerships with outside groups
Knowledge and understanding of government operations
Collaboration and relationship building and the ability to work with individuals at all levels in the organization and the community
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to multitask handle competing obligations and prioritize work to meet deadlines and maintain high standard of quality
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
Creative and effective written and graphical presentation abilities
Effective facilitation experience
Ability to attend frequent evening meetings and weekend events
Preferred Qualifications:
Canva Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator Seamless Docs e-learning tools and graphic design skills
Experience mediating conflict among individuals and groups
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) knowledge a plus
Working knowledge of non-profit resources preferred
Previous experience in event planning highly desirable
Learning & Development Certification
Degree in Political Science Education Public Administration Sociology Social Work or related field
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
High School diploma or equivalent and 5 year(s) of relevant experience; or 2 Year College degree and
3 year(s) of relevant experience; or Bachelors degree and 1 year(s) of relevant experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Citys Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process candidates may be asked to take a skills test and/or participate in other assessments.
