The Program Specialist I under general supervision performs Enrollment Manager processing duties for the Veteran Services Office. The Veterans Services Office is designed to assist current military veterans and military dependents transition to the university.
Please Note: The salary is determined in accordance with the Universitys compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates education and experience within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities:
Certify state/federal benefits reconcile federal tuition received by university and update all changes in Enrollment Manager.
Serve as secondary support for Hazlewood Exemption; monitor add/drop change of majors balance (tuition/fees) of all certified students.
Report adjustments and terminations as required and provide other related information to the United States Department of Veteran Affairs and other government entities for benefit payments.
Report enrollment changes within 30 days per VA guidelines; report student dismissals graduation dates and academic probation; attend conferences and trainings as necessary.
Serve as secondary support for developing and planning Veterans Programs.
Assist student veterans transition to campus life; disseminate information about military and veterans educational entitlement programs; counsel students and parents concerning eligibility and benefits available under various programs at local state regional and federal levels as part of New Student Orientation (NSO).
Maintain correspondence with veterans to provide them with latest news on benefits processes and procedures; remain current on matters pertaining to VA rules benefits and additions to SCO handbook.
Support the office of Veterans Services and performs additional duties as assigned by the office to promote the mission of Prairie View A&M University.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
No prior experience required.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal organizational and customer service skills.
Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of related experience.
Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in enrollment knowledge of local state and federal veterans programs and educational benefits that are provided to veteran sponsors and dependents
Build university relationships and effectively work with students staff faculty administrators and the surrounding community to support our military affiliated population.
Special Requirements:
Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelors degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelors degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of four years of experience.
