Director of Finance - Network Team
Reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED) the Director of Finance serves as a senior member of the LSC leadership team. The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Liberty STEAM Charter School ensuring sound financial management practices and helping drive the mission of the organization through the effective use of resources. This leadership role will manage budgeting accounting reporting compliance grant financial administration and financial planning while collaborating with executive leadership to ensure the long-term financial health and sustainability of the organization. The Director of Finance supervises a Business/Finance Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee and manage all aspects of accounting and financial operations including
- budgeting financial reporting cash flow needs and forecasting.
- Prepare and present monthly quarterly and annual financial statements to the
- Executive Director Board of Directors and relevant stakeholders.
- Further develop and maintain the Financial Dashboard and present to monthly Board Committee meetings and the Board of Directors meetings.
- Attend and present to the monthly Board Committee meetings and the Board of Directors meetings.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of the annual audit and the Form 990 taxreturn.
- Present to Executive Director audit firm candidates and your recommendation.
- Manage cash flow ensuring adequate liquidity for operations and identifyingareas for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead the budgeting process in collaboration with other departments to create the organizations annual budget and multi-year financial projections.
- Monitor budget performance throughout the year identifying variances and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Analyze financial data and trends to provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Stay current trends in salaries for teachers in surrounding areas and make recommendations to the Executive Director for new year salary adjustments to start the budget process.
Payroll Administration
- Oversee payroll processing for all staff ensuring accuracy timeliness and compliance with federal state and local regulations.
- Manage payroll systems tax filings benefits deductions and coordination with HR on compensation and staffing changes.
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws retirement plans and employee benefit requirements.
- Reconcile benefits to payroll deductions.
Banking & Cash Management
- Manage all banking relationships including operating accounts reserve accounts credit facilities and investment accounts.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity to ensure the school meets all financial obligations.
- Negotiate banking services and fees to optimize financial efficiency.
- Manage deposits from loan for construction payments.
Insurance & Risk Management
- Oversee all insurance programs including property liability workers compensation student accident IT and directors & officers (D&O) coverage.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with insurance brokers and carriers.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure compliance with all federal state and local regulations including maintaining proper accounting records and adhering to Liberty Financial Policy Manual and accounting standards (e.g. GAAP FASB guidelines).
- Ensure timely filing of financial documents including 990 forms and otherregulatory requirements.
- Act as the main liaison with auditors and ensure proper documentation is in placefor annual audits and reviews.
Grants Federal Programs & Fundraising Support
- Oversee financial reporting for grants federal programs (Title I II III IV and IDEA funding streams) and restricted funds ensuring that all expenses are in compliance with grant terms and conditions.
- Work closely with the Development team to track donations pledges and financial gifts ensuring proper documentation and use of funds.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting for fundraising campaigns and other revenue-generating activities.
- Provide tax documents to donors in compliance with IRS guidelines.
- Work closely with Quixote Foundation and support their philanthropic support of LSCS.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor the finance team providing guidance training and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a collaborative work environment and ensure high performance andaccountability across all financial operations.
Strategic Planning & Financial Sustainability
- Assist the Executive Director and Board of Directors in shaping the organization financial strategy ensuring alignment with the mission and long-term goals.
- Identify and implement strategies for sustainable financial growth ensuring the organization remains financially healthy and can scale operations as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting (preferred) or performing related role with excellent experience and background.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance with at least 5 years in a leadership role preferably in a non-profit or school district.
- Preferred strong knowledge of school district accounting principles or Fund Accounting financial regulations and reporting requirements. Experience in Smart Fusion preferred.
- Proven experience in financial planning budgeting and managing complex financial systems.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholdersincluding the Board of Directors and senior leadership.
Skills & Competencies
High level of proficiency in financial software (e.g. Smart Fusion Microsoft Excel etc.).
Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation
The salary for this position is very competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range is $ based upon experience relevant to the position.
This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual & organizational performance and goal attainment. LSC also offers a relocation stipend to defray the cost for individuals hired (if applicable).
