Job Summary

Intern I - Women in Science - Zoology Amphibians (High School)

This high school research internship introduces students to the study of amphibian ecology in the Chicagoland region with a focus on what amphibians eat and the role they play in urban and nearby natural environments. The intern will help organize and work with amphibian specimens and related ecological information assist with summarizing diet data and enter information into spreadsheets and simple databases used by the research team.

Additional activities may include helping with basic literature searches organizing notes and files and learning how scientists collect manage and interpret ecological data. Throughout the internship the student will be closely supervised and trained by researchers gaining hands-on experience in a real scientific research environment.

No prior research or museum experience is required. This position is intended for current high school students who are curious about biology ecology environmental science or biodiversity. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented comfortable using a computer (including basic spreadsheets) interested in nature and wildlife and willing to follow clear instructions and research protocols. The intern should also be comfortable working with preserved biological specimens with proper guidance and training provided.

Depending on the students level of participation and the progress of the project this internship may contribute to scientific presentations or publications offering valuable early exposure to scientific research teamwork and science communication.

If selected interns will be expected to attend on-site HR orientation on June 22 2026 and the internship will continue through Jul 31 2026. The salary is $17.25/hour for 35 hours a week. Selection will be based on email communication and virtual interviews conducted via Zoom. This internship is intended for female and non-binary identifying students.
