Description of Work
This position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution and reports to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager II. This position is responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Officer IIs at a multi custody correctional facility.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
There was an update to the Salary Range Effective February 12026. The new salary range is $39244 - $68679
This positions responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post and evaluating/overseeing officer activities and performance and
ensuring that the custody security and welfare of offenders is maintained.
2. Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are
followed according to policy.
3. Managing the facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) as needed.
4. Ensuring that staff are fully trained and that proper conduct actions and procedures are being followed.
5. Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills searches and in emergencies situations.
6. Responding to emergency situations such as distress codes escapes and transportation of offenders.
7. Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders offender living areas and work areas for contraband.
8. Preparing/reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.EEO Statement
