COREJOB SUMMARY

TheAdvanced Practice Registered Nursedelivers medical care to a wide variety of patients.Theincumbentexamines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals.Furthermore the incumbent ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention diagnosis treatment and Advanced Practice Registered Nurseprescribesmedications andordersdiagnostictestsandadvisespatients about continuing care.The Outpatient Orthopedic Joint Replacement Nurse Practitioner (APRN) functions as an advanced practice provider within a multidisciplinary academic orthopedic team specializing in adult joint reconstruction. This role provides comprehensive outpatient care to patients undergoing total hipandkneereplacement procedures. The NP collaborates closely with orthopedic surgeons fellows residents nurses physical therapists and ancillary staff to deliver evidence-based patient-centered care across the continuum of careincludingconservativemanagementpreoperative optimization postoperative follow-up and long-term outcomes management. The position supports the academic mission through participation in education quality improvement and clinical research initiatives.

  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic testsrelativeto patients age-specific needs.

  • Prescribesappropriate pharmacologicand non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.

  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain ormaintainphysiologicstability.

  • Assistswith the provision of carein accordance withfacility state and federal regulations.

  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.

  • Facilitates the patients transition within and between health care transferring and discharging patients.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by makingappropriate referrals.

  • Facilitates staffpatientand family decision making by providing educational tools.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

COREQUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Masters degreein relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

  • Valid State of Florida APRNLicense

Experience:

  • Nopreviousexperience

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive outpatient evaluations for patients with degenerative joint disease and other conditions requiring joint replacement

  • Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary patient management team.

  • Act as a liaisonrepresentingOrtho between the inpatient staff outside providers insurance companiessocial workers rehab services home health agencies/DME companiesand patients to provide complete patient care.

  • Assistwith prepping faculty clinics prior to their scheduled dates.

  • Assistwithfacilitatingthefacultyclinics to ensure efficiency and effective patient care.

  • Assistwith new and follow-up patient histories and physical exams.

  • Facilitate the correct ordering of studies and procedures while in faculty clinics.

  • Function as the first clinical point of contact for your patients to provide clinical support through the entire continuum of care.

  • Manage patients clinical requests to include medication refills ordering of DME/services and completion of necessary paperwork/letters.

  • Provide patient education andparticipatein patient/family interventions.

  • Follow post-operative patients andmonitorfor any postoperativecomplicationsand patients have the resources necessary for recovery.

  • Ensurestheappropriate applicationsof critical pathways.

  • Consult with patients and prospective patients/families by for care andadviseregardingappropriate interventionsincluding need for emergency treatment.

  • Consult with other professionalsregardingdecision-making for patient care as needed.

  • Participate in decision-making with patients by providing informationregardingpathophysiology and benefits/risks of treatment options.

  • Assistwith clinical and administrative staff development.

Procedural Responsibilities (as applicable)

  • Perform outpatient procedures such as joint aspirations and injections

  • Assistwith minor procedures and clinical interventions in the ambulatory setting

  • Other duties as assigned.

Academic & Educational Responsibilities

  • Participate in the education of medical students residents fellows and other advanced practice providers

  • Contribute to clinical guidelines care pathways and evidence-based practice initiatives

  • Engage in quality improvement patient safety and outcomes research projects

  • Support data collection and registry participation related to joint replacement outcomes

Administrative & Professional Responsibilities

  • Document care accurately and efficiently within the electronic health record

  • Participate in departmental meetings case conferences and multidisciplinary care planning

  • Maintain compliance with institutional policies accreditation standards and regulatory requirements

  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in patient care and academic activities

Department Specific Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program

  • Current Nurse Practitioner licensure inFlorida

  • National NP certification (e.g. ANCC or AANP)

  • Eligibility for credentialing and privileging at an academic medical center

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred

  • Acute Care Certification is preferred but not.

  • Orthopedic NP certification preferred but not

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in orthopedic surgery adult reconstruction or musculoskeletal care

  • Experience in outpatient surgical or procedural settings

  • Familiarity with academic medical center workflows and teaching environments

  • Demonstrated interest in clinical research quality improvement or education
