Supporting the City of Edmontons Workforce Safety and Employee Health Branch the Manager Health Services is a key leader in the integration of occupational health services within the Corporate Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) this role you will provide leadership and guidance to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals in the provision of Occupational Health service delivery to the organization as a whole and you will play an important role in aligning occupational health programs to corporate priorities and emerging needs.
Goals & Deliverables:
Lead coach and mentor a team consisting of Occupational Hygiene Occupational Health Nurse and Hazardous Material Consultants to ensure the corporate health programs are appropriately developed implemented and continuously improved
Engage and support staff in developing action plans to enhance communication solve problems mitigate conflict promote integration and support excellence
Develop and implement performance career development and management plans
Encourage organizational adoption and participation in occupational health programs that prevent employee illness or injury
Support and promote occupational health initiatives at the Corporate level and ensure Corporate standards are current with occupational health and safety legislated requirements
Manage and oversee the Occupational Health Physician support contract
Provide support to the team and manage team resources accordingly
In alignment with Corporate Division and Branch strategies actively participate in the development of business planning and associated operational strategies for the section and branch
Consult and interface with business partners throughout the Corporation to discuss priorities and identify gaps in existing safety & health programming
Collaborate with the leadership teams across the organization to assess priorities and develop required business plans
Develop strategic internal and external relationships that support health and safety initiatives and system continuous improvement

Diploma or Bachelors Degree in social sciences a health related discipline or other related field
Minimum of 5-7 years of related professional work experience in occupational health including progressive leadership experience in a unionized environment that involves managing professionals and diverse teams
Assets:
Masters Degree in social sciences a health related discipline or other related field
Experience working as an occupational health professional within a multi-disciplinary safety team
Skills needed to succeed:
Strong supervisory management leadership training coaching and team-building skills
Knowledge of relevant OH&S legislation
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and employees including the ability to influence towards desired outcomes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for written reports presentations and program development
Excellent working knowledge of general management practices including budgeting resource allocation contract management customer service and organizational behaviour
Ability to make data-driven decisions and manage complex situations
Proven skills in change management and identifying solutions for emerging issues
Ability to work within a politically sensitive environment between the shared service model and client expectations
Consulting expertise including needs analysis and cost-benefit analysis

Conditions of Employment:
Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent)
You will be required to arrange your own transportation for use while on City business. Where appropriate you will be reimbursed for expenses related to that travel in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. You may be required to obtain business auto insurance
Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
