CAIR San Francisco Bay Area is hiring a Policy Coordinator who will be responsible for advocating and promoting policy solutions for issues that impact Muslims and the broader American public.
Responsibilities will include advocating for just and inclusive policies when interacting with both local and federal government agencies. The role requires excellent research and communications skills to understand policy trends and to interface with elected officials community partners and various stakeholders effectively.
Location: Based in CAIRs Santa Clara office. CAIR staff currently work a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three days per week in the office and up to two days of remote work. Additional in-person attendance will often be required based on community and outreach needs.
Schedule Type: Full-time. Non-exempt. Occasional evenings and weekends required.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
As with all CAIR staff this role occasionally supports general office needs and organizational priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to present complex information in focused public-policy and advocacy materials and experience with public speaking
- Two or more years of experience in advocacy community organizing politics or a related field
- Strong understanding of the inner workings of state legislatures or Congress committees government departments and agencies
- Knowledge of the legislative processes with an ability to apply that knowledge to coherent strategy development and implementation
- Proven ability to develop key relationships and identify and leverage collaborative opportunities with a range of stakeholders and diverse communities
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and objectives lead projects and work effectively with others to produce positive results
- A high degree of self-motivation and creativity
- Basic computer proficiency including knowledge of MS Office MS Outlook and Adobe Acrobat
- Knowledge of cloud applications such as SharePoint and Office365
- A strong commitment to civil rights and CAIRs mission
