As an Environmental Staff Scientist you will be part of a collaborative civil engineering and environmental team tackling complex site investigation and remediation projects across New England. Responsibilities:
- Carry out Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
- Work directly on investigation and remediation projects under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan and Rhode Island Remediation Regulations
- Collect soil groundwater surface water and vapor samples at active project sites
- Assist with GIS mapping data management and preparation of figures for reports and regulatory submittals
- Aid with wetlands delineations including field data collection and documentation
- Learn from Licensed Site Professionals (LSPs) with site investigations regulatory coordination and remediation activities
- Support drilling and remediation activities alongside experienced scientists and engineers
- Help turn field data into clear meaningful technical reports and regulatory submittals
- Learn how projects move from investigation through cleanup and closure
- Collaborate with project managers engineers and senior environmental professionals
- Build a strong foundation in environmental regulations compliance and consulting best practices
- Take on additional responsibilities as opportunities arise
Preferred location is BETAs Norwood MA office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements
Required Experience/Skills :
- BS in Environmental Science Geology Environmental Engineering or a related field
- 1 to 3 years experience conducting environmental investigation remediation MCP compliance
- Familiarity with GPS field instruments and processes
- Ability to record and reduce field notes
- Excellent time management and ability to manage multiple assignments
- Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e. tablets smart phones laptops etc.)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation
