Job Summary

RCPS Job Description Special Education Compliance and Placement CoordinatorPosition SummaryRutland City Public Schools (RCPS) seeks a highly organized and collaborative Special Education Compliance and Placement Coordinator to support the districts commitment to high-quality equitable services for students with disabilities. This position oversees compliance with special education paperwork requirements and serves as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for students placed in alternative programs out-of-district settings and residential facilities. The Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring that all special education processes meet state and federal requirements while promoting appropriate placements in the least restrictive environment.Responsibilities
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all special education documentation requirements including IEPs evaluations prior written notices and procedural timelines
  • Serve as the LEA representative for students in alternative programs out-of-district placements and residential facilities
  • Participate in and facilitate placement-related meetings including IEP manifestation determination transition and interdisciplinary team meetings as appropriate
  • Review and audit student records for accuracy completeness and regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate closely with RCPS special education case managers building administrators related service providers and the central office team
  • Maintain accurate records related to student placements tuition agreements and service delivery
  • Communicate regularly with families sending districts receiving programs and community agencies
  • Stay current with IDEA Vermont special education regulations and best practices in special education
  • Provide guidance and professional learning to staff on compliance-related matters as needed
  • Assist with state reporting monitoring and audits as requested
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution required Masters degree in Special Education or a related field preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of IDEA and Vermont special education rules and procedures
  • Experience in special education case management or compliance preferred
  • Excellent organizational written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity inclusion and advocacy for students with disabilities
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to maintain a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to process analyze and maintain voluminous digital and physical records with high attention to detail
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations within the district and to private facilities as required by placement schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students staff and families in person and through various communication methods
  • Ability to operate standard classroom and office equipment including computers and instructional technology
  • Occasional ability to lift or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Schedule and duties may vary based on assignment and school needs
