Job Overview

Tekberry is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician IV for our client a global leader in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies to support engineering project initiatives focused on manufacturing capacity expansions and production line installations at a Newton NC facility.

This advanced-level technician role provides hands-on mechanical leadership in equipment installation line debugging and operations readiness. The position plays a key role in supporting multi-line installations resolving complex mechanical issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Installation Leadership

  • Lead and/or support manufacturing engineering projects focused on capacity additions and equipment installations.
  • Manage and lead mechanical installation and debugging activities to meet milestone and timeline objectives.
  • Support preparation of production lines and associated components for Operations Receivership.
  • Assist in development and execution of project plans to deliver timely error-free mechanical installations.
  • Work alongside vendors and suppliers to resolve technical issues while protecting scope schedule and cost objectives.

Mechanical Systems Expertise

  • Design and implement mechanical solutions and process improvements to enhance manufacturing performance.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting diagnosis and repair of mechanical systems (pumps motors conveyors hydraulics pneumatics bearings gear systems etc.).
  • Align test and calibrate mechanical systems after installation.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical failures and recommend effective corrective actions.
  • Interpret blueprints schematics and technical manuals to support installation and troubleshooting activities.

Process Improvement & Documentation

  • Solve mechanical and process issues through structured data analysis and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability efficiency and safety.
  • Manage spare parts identification and storeroom entries across a two-plant footprint.
  • Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.
  • Support training efforts for operations personnel related to equipment or process changes.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain safe work practices and proactively identify hazardous conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with industrial safety standards and best practices.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Associate s degree required.
  • High School diploma considered with significant hands-on mechanical experience.

Required Experience

  • 3 years of experience in new equipment installations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Start-up and line commissioning experience preferred.
  • Experience working in fast-paced multi-priority project environments.

Required Skills

  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Expertise in hydraulics pneumatics bearings gear systems and conveyor systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings blueprints and schematics.
  • Proficiency with hand tools power tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety regulations and practices.
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS systems.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work independently in a high-volume installation environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechatronics trade background highly desired.
  • Relevant certifications (Millwright HVAC Welding OSHA etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with commercial manufacturing equipment.
  • Project leadership or milestone management experience.
  • Vendor and supplier management experience (onsite/offsite).
  • CAD experience.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain strong attention to detail.

Work Environment

  • 100% onsite in Newton NC with potential support at Hickory NC facility.
  • 40-hour workweek; overtime and periodic off-hours coverage may be required.
  • Fast-paced project installation environment with frequent cross-functional interaction.
