Performs functions to provide leadership and management for the manufacturing and materials functions to support the manufacture testing and shipment of heavy capital equipment. This includes the direction and oversite of the following functional areas within the company:
- Manufacturing engineering/production scheduling
- Machining
- Welding/structures
- Equipment assembly (mechanical/electrical/paint)
- Maintenance & facility
- Facility Safety
- Shipping and receiving
- Materials/inventory
Executes to monthly and yearly goals in the areas of cost quality safety and on-time delivery. Has the responsibility to meet project budgets and schedules as they relate to the manufacturing functions. Works closely with the quality assurance team to ensure manufactured product meets requirements. Leads and participates in continuous improvement initiatives of all facets of the business using lean techniques as appropriate. Provides planning and scheduling direction and oversite. Identifies and implements improvements methods that motivates team members. Utilizes communication skills as they relate to employee relations and managing change.
Under general oversight:
- Supports the Whiting business plan and the company wide goals in the areas of cost quality safety and delivery.
- Provides direction and coordination of direct reports and the overall manufacturing team
- Prepares and performs to annual departmental budgets.
- Serves as company leader and oversite of safety processes and programs.
- Serves as leadership in continuous improvement projects as they relate to manufacturing and materials/inventory activities.
- Possess a working understanding and has the ability to apply the principles of Lean Manufacturing in terms of theory and application in a project based engineered to order job shop type of production environment.
- Manages the human resource element of the position in terms of maintaining salary equity. Equitably manage the promotional paths for team members and the merit review system. Work actively to maintain morale within areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for oversight of property plant and equipment over multiple shifts. Author ARs for the purpose of upgrading the aforementioned items as required.
- Proactively manages manufacturing capacity and takes appropriate actions when capacity is constrained in order to fulfill customer demand patterns. Develops and maintains accurate capacity reports.
- Manages the Production Update meetings and processes.
- Actively works on developing the skills of direct reports and their teams in terms of training and education. Manages succession planning.
- Supports the Whiting Quality System in terms of ISO-9001 NCR/Corrective Action system and other quality system related items.

Uses: Microsoft Office (incl. Excel Word) ERP System (Epicor) technical manufacturing drawings and machine controls.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in a technical discipline required.
- Minimum ten (10) years experience in a heavy manufacturing environment working in a similar capacity required.
- Possess the ability to read and understand technical engineering and manufacturing drawings including weldment machine and assembly drawings.
- Possess an understanding and have experience in the use of manufacturing planning (MRP/ERP) systems.
- Possess the ability to calculate and manage to plant capacity on a continuous basis.
- Candidate must have strong leadership skills and be a good communicator both verbal and written.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (incl. Word Excel Access).
- Regular work in manufacturing areas; use of PPE (personal protective equipment) as required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- APICS Six Sigma Black Belt certifications or equivalent recommended.
Performs other duties as assigned. Participates in Continuous Improvement efforts and 6S.
Follows safety rules and keeps work area in clean and orderly condition.
Pay Range: $120000 - $160000 per year based on experience education skills and qualifications.
