DescriptionPosition Title: TRIO Upward Bound Lead Classroom Teacher.
Department: TRIO Upward Bound.

Work Schedule: Upward Bound (UB) hosts approximately 120 UB students on campus each summer for an annual six-week academic residential summer program. Students live in an Olaf residence hall from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon returning home every weekend. During the academic summer program the standard 40-hour work schedule is Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm; however extra hours are required for this position during opening and closing weeks. Lead classroom teachers provide instruction in classes offered throughout the summer and supervise assistant teaching staff and students during the summer classroom day.
Length of Position: Approximately six weeks.
Work Location: On campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Curriculum development.
- Instruction and teaching in assigned curriculum areas.
- Correct and evaluate student work when appropriate.
- Play leadership role in classroom programming.
- Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment.
- Participate in extracurricular activities when appropriate.
- Ensure students and colleagues are following all St. Olaf and UB rules and guidelines.
- Attend staff meetings and complete other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree ability to establish good rapport with students experience with and ability to relate with others (high school students) sensitive to target population and committed to program objectives and goals strong background in subject areas.
- Experience:
- Teaching/classroom experience.
- Ability to establish good rapport with students and UB staff.
- Experience with and ability to relate with others (high school students).
- Sensitive to target population and committed to program objectives and goals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Valid Minnesota teaching license.
- Experience: 3 years classroom experience preferably in a high school/college/academic setting with a diverse student body; personal background/familiarity with students with similar backgrounds to those in TRIO (ex. low-income first-generation in their families to obtain a college degree); previous supervision experience must be able to commute to and from St. Olaf.
Prerequisites:
- Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks reference checks verification of work history verification of any required academic credentials licenses and/or certifications a motor vehicle check verification of DOT certification a credit check employment eligibility verification and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College.
