About Helicopters Without Borders

Helicopters Without Borders mission is to increase access to essential health and wellness services for the most marginalized and isolated communities in BC through carbon neutral aviation. By delivering care directly to communities with limited or no road access HWB removes geographic barriers to healthcare and creates lasting trust based relationships with the communities it serves.

What makes HWB truly unique is its operating model. It is the only organization in Canada focused exclusively on delivering healthcare directly to community doorsteps using aviation as the delivery modality. HWB operates with an entrepreneurial empathetic and highly autonomous culture where trust accountability and cultural humility are central to everything they do.

About the Role

The Community Coordinator is a newly created high impact role that will serve as the primary in community point of contact during HWB flight programs. This role plays a critical part in ensuring clinics run smoothly communities feel supported and healthcare providers can focus on patient care.

The Community Coordinator will spend significant time in the field and will also contribute to planning systems building and logistics between flight weeks. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments enjoys frontline community engagement and is comfortable making decisions independently in complex situations.

Salary: $60000-$70000/Per annum

Key Responsibilities

Pre Flight and Planning
  • Support trip planning and logistics including accommodations and community notifications
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Policies
  • Manage patient sign up processes and awareness materials
  • Coordinate program communications including SMS or social media notifications
  • Support food security and community initiatives tied to clinic delivery
During Flight Weeks
  • Act as the in community representative of HWB
  • Manage patient flow sign up sheets and waiting lists
  • Serve as the main point of contact for communities healthcare workers and HWB team members
  • De escalate challenging or emotional situations with empathy and professionalism
  • Gather informal community feedback and service requests
  • Support health promotion and education initiatives
  • Collect surveys and assist with community engagement activities
Post Flight
  • Participate in community debriefs
  • Provide structured feedback and reporting to the operations team
Ongoing
  • Build strong trust based relationships with community partners
  • Help design and document systems and processes for this new role
  • Act as an internal cultural safety champion


Requirements

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Exceptional communication and listening abilities
  • High emotional intelligence and cultural humility
  • Ability to work calmly and independently in high pressure environments
  • Confidence and assertiveness balanced with empathy
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace Microsoft Teams and project management tools such as Asana
  • Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle
Work Environment and Expectations
  • Approximately 20 weeks per year of travel Monday to Friday with weekend returns
  • Standard hours are 8 am to 5 pm with flexibility required during flight weeks
  • Ability to work in locations with limited or no cell service or WiFi
  • Reporting to the Program Manager
  • Physically able to help load and unload the aircraft
  • Comfortable with flying by helicopter to some of the most gorgeous and remote areas in Western Canada!
