APostdoc/Research Fellowposition is available in the laboratories of Prof. Jianzhu CHEN (SMART/MIT) and Prof. CHEW Sing Yian (Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore) to a highly motivated candidate who has a passion forneural stem cell therapies &immunology research fellow will be based in Singapore.
Specifically we are seeking an individual who is skilled and interested in the derivation and characterization of human neural stem cells; understanding and elucidating the molecular and functional behavior of stem cells; evaluating stem cell-biomaterials substrate interactions in vitro and in vivo.
Here the work will be devoted to the derivation characterization and optimization of neural progenitor cells from human induced pluripotent stem cells for in vitro cell manufacturing and in vivo cell transplantation for neural tissue regeneration in the central nervous system.
Key Responsibilities:
The Research Fellow is expected to work well in a collaborative inter-institute environment. The candidate will be given opportunities and is expected to design and execute experiments independently. The candidate is also expected to interpret experimental results and author papers in high-quality journals in areas that are related to the research. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills and have a strong passion and commitment to science. The candidate will also work closely with the Principal Investigators to help supervise and train junior lab members and to ensure smooth functioning of an active research program. The candidate will have the opportunity to explore his/her own interests across functions.
This project involves an international collaboration between MIT/SMART NTU Duke-NUS University of Osaka and Nagoya University.
The goal of the project is to design a neural cell implantation therapy for spinal cord injury treatment. We will achieve this goal through enhanced biological understanding of the regeneration process of nerve tissue together with optimized engineering methods to prepare biomaterial scaffolds and neural cells for a robust manufacturing and successful transplantation into the body.
Job Requirements:
PhD in Biological Sciences Neuroscience Stem Cells Regenerative Biology or a relevant field.
Our ideal candidate has several of the following skills and knowledge:
Molecular Biology (Western blot immunostaining quantitative PCR etc)
Mammalian cell culture (experience with induced pluripotent stem cells and/or adult stem cells preferred)
Machine learning and basic bioinformatics
A proven solid research experience in the context of multi-partner research (academic and/or industrial) and a significant publication record in indexed international research journals.
We expect the candidate to be an efficient and autonomous team researcher have good communication writing and ethics skills and have a critical approach to formulation and testing of hypotheses.
Strong organizational skills and proactive personality with outstanding motivation creativity critical and analytical thinking skills strong scientific commitment and ability to work as a team.
Starting salaries will depend on candidates qualification and experience. Candidates are expected to start March 2026. Review of applicants will continue until positions are filled.
