We are seeking an Enterprise Data Architect who will help define the enterprise-wide data strategy architectural principles and standards necessary to execute the organizations strategic Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics roadmap.
Primary duties include designing the conceptual logical and physical data models governing the selection and integration of data platforms and ensuring compliance with all architectural standards across the data ecosystem.
Additional duties may include providing technical oversight and mentorship to Data Engineering teams guiding the adoption of new cloud data technologies and serving as the subject matter expert for data modeling best practices.
Core Responsibilities and Duties
- Define and govern the principles standards and blueprints for all data architecture components including data lakes data warehouses and data integration platforms.
- Design and enforce enterprise data modeling techniques such as Dimensional Modeling Data Vault and relational schemas to support robust business intelligence and predictive systems.
- Evaluate select and define the appropriate use cases for modern cloud data platforms (e.g. in Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS)) and Extract Load and Transform (ELT)/Extract Transfer and Load (ETL) tools to support high-volume data ingestion and processing.
- Develop data security architecture governance frameworks and quality standards to ensure compliance with National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) requirements and protect sensitive information across the data environment.
- Collaborate closely with the AI Solutions Architect to ensure the data platform is optimized for machine learning feature engineering model training and efficient model serving.
- Provide expert guidance and mentorship to Data Engineers on optimizing complex data pipelines and implementing resilient performant data structures.
Other Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead architectural planning for major enterprise system modernization efforts guiding data migration and transformation strategies.
- Document and communicate complex data architecture decisions data flows and governance policies to both technical teams and senior leadership.
- Stay current with industry trends in data architecture MLOps and cloud-native services to drive continuous improvement in the enterprise data capability.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree (BS) in engineering/science discipline
- OR applicants without a bachelors degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 8 years of completed education and/or relevant experience

Preferred Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in IT with at least 2 years focused specifically on enterprise data architecture data modeling and large-scale data systems.
- Proficiency in defining data modeling methodologies (e.g. Dimensional Modeling Data Vault Third Normal Forms (3NF)).
- Demonstrated experience with cloud-based data platform services (e.g. AWS Azure) and a strong understanding of ELT/ETL principles.
- Masters degree (MS) in a relevant technical field with minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- Proven expertise in defining data modeling methodologies (e.g. Dimensional Modeling Data Vault 3NF).
- Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring to Data Engineering or Business Intelligence (BI) teams.
- Certifications in relevant cloud data architecture (e.g. AWS Certified Data Analytics Azure Data Engineer Data Vault).
- Knowledge of enterprise security and compliance standards for data handling in highly regulated environments.

The minimum education and experience for the lowest career level in the job posting range are listed under Minimum Job Requirements. Successful candidates hired into a higher career level than the minimum in the range must meet the requirements listed in the job leveling charts for the career level into which they are being hired.
If a range of Career Levels is posted i.e. Senior Associate to Senior Specialist internal applicants already in one of the Career Levels would come across at their current Career Level. Internal applicants currently in a lower level Career Level would move to the lowest posted Career Level.
Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph pursuant to 10 CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
