Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $25.82 - $39.42. In addition this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors including but not limited to: scope of role level of experience education accomplishments internal equity budget and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

Job Title: HSS Athletic Trainer POP Outreach Liaison
Department: HSS Pediatric Orthopedics
Reports To: Director of Pediatric Orthopedics & Pediatric Service Chief
Location: HSS Main Campus and Schools throughout the Five Boroughs of NYC

Job Type: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Exempt / non-Exempt (depending on structure)

Position Summary:

HSS is seeking a dedicated certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) to serve as a liaison between the hospitals pediatric orthopedic department and partnered public private and catholic high school athletic programs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of student-athletes by providing on-site injury prevention assessment and triage while facilitating seamless coordination of care with physicians therapists coaches and school administrators.

The ideal candidate is passionate about adolescent health and sports medicine skilled in building relationships across institutions and capable of delivering exceptional care in both clinical and athletic settings.

Key Responsibilities:

On-Site Athletic Support:

  • Provide supplemental athletic training services including evaluation and follow up assessment at assigned partner high schools.

  • Evaluate and manage acute injuries implement prevention programs and offer return-to-play guidance.

  • Maintain accurate and timely injury documentation in accordance with HIPAA and school policies.

HospitalSchool Liaison Duties:

  • Act as the primary communication link between the hospitals pediatric orthopedic sports medicine team and school stakeholders (coaches athletic directors school nurses and parents).

  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up care for injured athletes with hospital physicians and rehabilitation staff.

  • Facilitate pre-participation physicals injury screenings and educational workshops for student-athletes and coaches.

Education & Outreach:

  • Provide ongoing education to student-athletes coaches and families on topics such as injury prevention concussion management hydration and conditioning.

  • Organize and lead in-service training for school personnel on emergency action plans and sports safety protocols.

Administrative & Clinical Collaboration:

  • Participate in regular meetings with hospital leadership to align outreach goals and program outcomes.

  • Assist in data collection and reporting on injury trends athlete care metrics and program effectiveness.

  • Support clinical operations at the hospitals sports medicine clinic as needed (e.g. during off-seasons or school breaks).

Qualifications:

Education & Certification:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Athletic Training Kinesiology or related field.

  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) credential through the BOC.

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Insert State.

Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years of experience in athletic training preferably with adolescent or high school populations.

  • Experience in outreach or liaison roles is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact with a variety of stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently in dynamic and fast-paced school and sports environments.

  • Proficiency in injury documentation systems (e.g. EMR/EHR or sports injury tracking software).

  • Flexibility in scheduling including evenings and weekends based on sports calendars.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent travel between hospital and high school sites.

  • Work performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to a range of weather conditions.

  • Occasional lifting or moving of athletic equipment (up to 50 lbs).

  • Successful applicants will be available to work Monday- Friday 9/10:00AM 5:00/6:00PM but should be flexible and available to work athletic event schedules including evenings and weekends.
