Nevins Inc. seeks a strategic mission-driven leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Founded in 1959 Nevins has a long and deeply rooted history of serving adults with developmental disabilities growing from a small community-based effort into a respected provider of employment education and life-enrichment services.

For more than six decades Nevins has adapted alongside changing care models regulatory environments and community needswhile remaining steadfast in its commitment to dignity inclusion and person-centered support.

Today that legacy provides a strong foundation for the organizations next chapter of impact. The organization enters this transition from a position of operational strength with strong documentation practices recent CARF accreditation and established Medicaid-funded and private-pay programs serving approximately 5560 participants. Nevins operates in a highly regulated clinical environment shaped by state oversight Medicaid waiver requirements insurer audits and facility compliance standards.

Nevins seeks a CEO who can articulate a clear strategic direction strengthen organizational culture and unlock growth opportunities within its existing service model. Growth is expected to come primarily through optimizing authorized services and expanding participation within programs the organization already qualifies to provide rather than through dramatic programmatic shifts.

The new CEO should expect to encounter a demanding frontline caregiving environment meaningful regulatory complexity and an engaged Board that is energized by the leadership transition. The Board itself is likely to evolve over the next one to two years requiring thoughtful governance partnership and process strengthening.

Top priorities for the incoming CEO will include:

  • Clarifying and refining strategic priorities in partnership with the Board
  • Strengthening culture through visible empowering and servant-oriented leadership
  • Optimizing reimbursement-based revenue by ensuring full utilization of authorized clinical services
  • Supporting and retaining strong internal leaders across clinical and HR functions
  • Investing in communication and training systems to improve consistency across management levels
  • Maintaining strong relationships with payers state partners and community stakeholders
Mission: To provide clinically grounded employment education and community engagement opportunities to adults with developmental disabilities.

Reporting Structure: The CEO reports to the five-member Board of Directors and provides leadership to the organizations senior team which includes 5 direct reports.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and begins in the $145000 range. Benefits include but are not limited to: medical dental vision life disability insurance supplemental life and a 401k plan.

Working Environment/Location: On-site/hybrid Charlotte North Carolina

Key Responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Strategic Leadership and Direction

  • Partner with the Board to clarify and advance strategic priorities.
  • Translate vision into actionable plans that guide the organization through a complex and changing operating environment.


Board and Governance Partnership

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure transparent communication and support effective governance.
  • Provide timely insight into organizational performance risks and opportunities.


Clinical and Program Oversight

  • Provide executive oversight of clinical services and programs.
  • Ensure quality compliance and alignment with best practices.
  • Support strong leadership within the clinical team.


Financial Stewardship and Sustainability

  • Oversee financial strategy budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Ensure sustainability across a reimbursement-based funding model.
  • Support responsible stewardship of organizational assets and facilities.


Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and ethical practice.


External Relations and Organizational Visibility

  • Serve as Nevins primary ambassador.
  • Strengthen relationships with funders partners public officials and the broader community.


Talent Leadership and Organizational Culture

  • Lead support and retain a high-performing leadership team.
  • Foster a collaborative mission-centered organizational culture.
The Ideal Candidate Profile
  • The ideal candidate will be a seasoned executive leader with experience in human services healthcare behavioral health or a related nonprofit environment.
  • Proven experience serving as a CEO Executive Director or senior executive leading complex organizations.
  • Ability to think strategically while executing effectively in a regulated reimbursement-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading organizations through change or growth.
  • Experience overseeing clinical or programmatic services subject to regulatory oversight.
  • Strong understanding of budgets financial reporting and contract- or reimbursement-based revenue.
  • Strong track record of productive partnership with Boards of Directors.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and ability to build trust with staff funders regulators and community partners.
  • Deep commitment to the mission and the populations served; leadership grounded in integrity accountability and respect.
  • Bachelors degree required Masters Level degree preferred.
