Were hiring an experienced Engineering Lead to join Account Management (Hold) the team that enables customers to hold manage and organise money across Current Savings and Child accounts.
Our mission is to make Wise the best everyday banking solution for international customers by increasing hold volume account adoption and long-term retention. This is a hands-on leadership role: youll guide engineers own the teams technical direction and be accountable for the reliability scalability and correctness of core account systems. Youll work closely with Product Design and Analytics to deliver cross-functional initiatives and you should be comfortable making high-impact architectural decisions and getting into the details when needed.
What youll be doing
Translate product strategy into technical roadmaps that move KPIs (hold volume account adoption etc.).
Lead and coach engineers; own hiring mentoring and performance to grow technical capability and delivery impact.
Actively contribute to the codebase: ship changes review designs and unblock technical work when needed.
Identify opportunities to improve the Account product balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical health.
Work with Wise Platform Finance and other squads to enable new financial products built on the Account platform.
Set and own the teams technical direction driving architecture and design decisions for globally scalable account systems.

What Youll Need to Succeed

Hard skills
Technical leadership & system design expertise: strong grasp of scalable distributed systems event-based architectures and microservices; able to make high-impact architectural decisions.
Comfortable owning reliability scalability and correctness for systems that process customer balances and money flows.
Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performing engineering teams and growing senior ICs.
Soft skills
Leadership through empowerment: build autonomous teams by providing context trust and clear direction (not micromanaging).
Product mindset: you prioritise customer impact and business outcomes not just technical implementation.
Clear communicator: able to explain technical concepts to engineers and non-technical stakeholders and align cross-functional partners.
Bias to action and comfort with ambiguity: able to move quickly while maintaining quality and compliance.
Nice to have
Experience in fintech or high-volume transactional environments (payments banking or similar).
Experience designing and optimising databases and data models for high throughput and correctness.
Experience with JVM platform (Java/Kotlin/Spring Boot).
