About the role

Safe drinking water begins long before it reaches the tap. Everyone in Western Australia relies on safe secure drinking water and that safety starts in our catchments. Across WAs vast and varied landscapes Water Corporation manages over 120 drinking water sources that support towns communities and industries statewide. Protecting these sources is essential to public health and the resilience of our water supply.

Were looking for a Technical Advisor Source Protection to join our dedicated team in this role youll work alongside regional staff catchment rangers and water quality experts to understand local challenges and put practical science-based strategies in place that ensure the ongoing protection of WAs drinking water sources. Working collaboratively with regional operations and water quality stakeholders you will help assess risks guide land use decisions and champion the protection of our precious drinking water sources.

The role includes occasional travel to regional locations so a valid WA Drivers Licence is required.

What you can expect with this role

• Analysing scientific and hydrological information to understand how land use and environmental conditions may impact our drinking water catchments
• Carrying out desktop investigations into water quality issues and supporting field-based assessments where required
• Reviewing Catchment Management Strategies including detailed trend analysis monitoring program development and sitebased hazard assessments across regional WA
• Using spatial tools and analysis to identify priority areas and inform catchment risk management
• Building strong relationships with regional stakeholders including catchment rangers operators and water quality teams to help deliver practical improvements on the ground
• Producing clear wellstructured technical reports and advice that inform internal decision-making and support operational and regulatory processes.

Your skills and experience

For this role we are looking for great talent with:

• Degree level qualification in science environmental science natural resource management or relevant equivalent
• Sound experience in catchment management water quality management natural resource management or environmental science
• Sound experience in using spatial software (e.g. ArcGIS)
• Excellent written communication skills (including technical plans and reports).
• Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills that enable strong stakeholder and relationship management
• Familiarity with/knowledge of the source protection requirements of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and related legislation to source protection
• The values and behaviours that contribute to a constructive high performance culture
