About the Role
The Financial Accountant ensures accurate compliant and audit-ready financial records for a group of Australian not-for-profit entities. This hands-on role oversees technical accounting balance sheet integrity FBT and statutory compliance under Australian Accounting Standards ATO and ACNC requirements. Working closely with senior finance and audit teams the role supports strong governance high-quality management and statutory reporting and continuous improvement of controls and processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical Financial Accounting & Compliance: Manage complex journals statutory tax obligations (BAS GST FBT payroll) and ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards taxation legislation and not-for-profit reporting requirements.
- Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes including general ledger reviews balance sheet reconciliations and audit-ready financial statements.
- Reporting & Analysis: Deliver monthly management and board reports with clear variance analysis performance insights and alignment between management statutory and tax reporting.
- Audit Governance & Statutory Reporting: Coordinate external audits prepare statutory financial reports and disclosures maintain strong governance controls and address compliance and audit risks.
- Systems Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Drive consistent accounting treatment system improvements automation and high-quality documentation to strengthen reporting and audit outcomes.
- Stakeholder Management: Partner with finance and non-finance stakeholders to provide clear accounting guidance support decision-making and promote accountability and sound financial governance.
What Youll Bring to the Role
- CA or CPA qualified with a tertiary degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum 7 years senior financial accounting experience ideally in not-for-profit community services healthcare or government-funded sectors.
- Strong technical accounting audit exposure and understanding of NFP grants and funding.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with Xero.
- Ability to work remotely.
