Job Description

The Academic Advising Liaison at Texas A&M University - Texarkana provides undergraduate enrollment transition academic advising course planning to timely graduation financial aid guidance and professional support for all new undergraduate students. The Academic Advising Liaison builds meaningful relationships with students makes appropriate referrals acts proactively to address barriers to registration and serves as an advocate for the institution at all times. This position reports to theExecutiveDirector of Academic Advisingwith a dotted line report to the Executive Director of Admissions and the Executive Director of Financial Aid.

Salary information: The expected salary for this position is $48000.00 annually.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the Universitys mission through engaging in productive communication and community building with internal and external stakeholders including students
  • faculty staff institution partners and the public.
  • Provides academic advising for all new undergraduate students. Advising is
  • grounded in tenets of practice outlined by the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA) and Appreciative Advising prior to the first year to foster informed choices in students educational planning.
  • Advises students on financial matters involving scholarships financial aid admission processing indebtedness etc.
  • Utilizes knowledge of TAMUT policies and procedures to advise and counsel prospective students and families with educational inquiries.
  • Implements a student-centered approach to all aspects of decision-making and daily business.
  • Advises in both group and individual settings with prospective students including virtual and physical options.
  • Monitors admission and registration progress for new undergraduate students and executes intervention strategies for students who need additional support to complete the registration process.
  • Promotes student learning development and personal growth to empower self-sufficiency.
  • Manages/coordinates advising projects events outreach and interventions for all students including specific student populations.
  • Actively seeks to identify and address individual organizational and environmental conditions that foster or inhibit student success.
  • Collaborates with members of the campus community in student success and career development initiatives.
  • Counsel students and parents regarding the eligibility of various financial aid veterans education benefits and scholarships opportunities. Assist students and families with the financial aid application (FAFSA) and financial aid processes.
  • Analyze and review reports to determine outreach and intervention actions need to support student enrollment success.
  • Mentors and builds a strong relationship and coordinate with support staff from admissions business office financial aid recruitment and registers office to deliver student-centered service on behalf of the advising unit and enrollment management.
  • Cultivates and models a proactive mindset student advocacy and effective communication within the academic advising unit and across campus.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet word processing database and presentation software programs.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills interpersonal skills and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work individually or as a team.
  • Ability to organize and make decisions.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate technical information effectively and diplomatically.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to recognize and analyze problems evaluate solutions and make recommendations.
  • A track record working with Client Relationship Management or Student Information System technology platforms.
  • Knowledge of college entrance exams and instruments which assist students in the areas of academic and career choices as well as knowledge of undergraduate admissions financial aid scholarships and academic and student services is required.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
