Who We Are:CAMBA is a community of staff volunteers clients donors neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development Family Support Job Training & Employment Support Services Health Housing and Legal Services. We reach almost 80000 individuals and families including almost 13000 serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
CAMBAs Housing Services operates approximately 1600 units of transitional emergency scattered-site and permanent congregate housing. These programs provide services to individuals and families who are formerly homeless or have special needs including case management crisis intervention independent living skills training recreation socialization and other support services.
Position: Security Guard Supervisor
Reports To: Program Director of Security
Location: 560 Winthrop Street Brooklyn New York 11203
What The Security Guard Supervisor Does:
The person filling this position is expected under general supervision to ensure the smooth running and supervision of all facility/operations-related staff and services on a day-to-day basis to ensure that all client goals targets and performance outcomes are met on a daily/weekly/monthly basis including the following:
- Comply with all Federal State City and CAMBA security and privacy polices intended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information.
- Communicate effectively with clients direct reporting staff peers and supervisors.
- Ensure regulatory compliance is met via site visits to various Supportive Housing sites.
- Ensure the safety and security of operations of the facility by maintaining adequate staffing levels.
- Ensure inventory of security equipment is up to date.
- Manage and coordinate the day-to-day security functions of the facilities.
- Manage own time effectively.
- Motivate coach and counsel direct reporting staff to excel.
- Prepare performance appraisals for direct reporting staff.
- Review and sign time sheets.
- Professionally respond to complaints incidents and emergencies and/or incidents and interview all parties analyze collect data document and report the situation.
- Resolve individual conflicts and disputes between staff or clients in a respectful and solution-based manner.
- Monitor clients safety and ensure safety policies and procedures are practiced daily.
- Overcome resistance to change from clients direct reporting staff and supervisors/funders.
- Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/semester/annual reports to CAMBA management and/or to funders.
- In the absence of adequate staffing will have direct service/program responsibility in addition to the above.
- Monitor and ensure the security and fire safety of the entire facility.
- Employ crisis prevention/intervention and crisis management skills when conflict occurs.
- Patrol buildings and grounds of facilities where CAMBA programs are located.
- Examine doors windows gates and all fire exits to determine that they are secure and in accordance with all fire regulations.
- Observe and report irregularities such as unusual tenant behavior trespassers fire hazards leaking water pipes and security doors left unlocked.
- Monitor tenants and the facility via security camera systems.
- Conduct fire safety patrols and report findings or fire safety concerns to appropriate supervisory personnel.
- Conduct security screenings of all tenants and visitors entering the facility.
- Issue commendations to support positive tenant behaviors such as peers helping peers compliance with rules and regulations etc.
- Counsel tenants who violate rules (such as loitering smoking or carrying forbidden articles) and complete infraction reports.
- Observe departing employees visitors and/or tenants to guard against theft of CAMBA property.
- Document in the security logbook and incident report forms property damage unusual occurrences and incidents with employees visitors and tenants.
- Sign equipment in and out for each shift.
- Lead and participate in program meetings as requested.
- As a Mandated Reporter you must immediately report suspected incidents/cases of abuse and neglect to the Vulnerable Persons Central Register (VPCR) Hotline at 1- and complete a CAMBA Incident Report.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
- HS Diploma or GED
- Security License
Minimum Experience and Skills Required:
- Two years of relevant experience.
- One year of supervisory experience.
- Basic analytical & math skills.
- Good written & verbal communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual English and Spanish.
Pre and/or Post Employment Requirements:
- Obtain Criminal History Checks (CHC) fingerprinting through the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs (Justice System) and Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance.
- Ability to maintain fingerprint clearance throughout employment.
Compensation: $60000 - $65000 annually
When salary ranges are listed the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and includes but is not limited to experience education budget and/or program size internal equity skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
