The Executive Director of Middle Education and Leadership provides vision and leadership in curriculum development implementation of best instructional practices and ensures congruence between the written taught and assessed curriculum. This position works collaboratively with the Superintendent Deputy Superintendent other Executive Directors Directors and Principals to meet division and school goals.
Essential Job Functions:
- Works with the Board Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent to ensure the organization achieves its mission goals priorities and measurable targets.
- Ensures compliance with all State and Federal Laws Virginia Department of Education rules and regulations and SCPS policies and regulations.
- Assists in directing the development of Division-based curriculum and supervises its implementation in all middle schools throughout the school system.
- Plans organizes and directs the overall middle school programs budget and activities.
- Assures that all elements of the Divisions strategic plan are consistent and supportive of the instructional objectives and strategies of the School Division.
- Assists principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level and subject content areas to effect continuity and articulation within middle schools across grades and between schools throughout the Division.
- Assists in the development/revision of curriculum guides at the middle level.
- Assists middle principals in identifying curricular needs instructional resources classroom and administrative technology.
- Assists in evaluating the Divisions and each middle schools instructional performance objectives and initiates appropriate corrective action.
- Assists in interpreting for the public staff and School Board the curriculum and instructional programs of the Spotsylvania County Schools.
- Submits periodic reports to the Deputy Superintendent on curricular problems or developments along with suggested courses of action.
- Keeps current on developments in curriculum instruction and technology on the state and national levels and provides leadership in determining their appropriateness in the Divisions program.
- Assists in the recruitment screening and selection of administrative and instructional personnel upon request.
- Works collaboratively with the Office of Teaching and Learning on the implementation and alignment of curriculum and assessments.
- Works with middle principals athletic directors and athletic trainers on the implementation of VHSL policies and division level protocols.
- Collaborates with the Department of Human Resources to interview and recommend candidates to fill middle leadership positions as requested.
- Serves as the central office contact and liaison with parents and the community regarding the divisions middle instructional program.

Education and Experience:
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License with a specific endorsement in School Administration
- Five (5) years of successful full-time experience in School Administration
