Bus Driver Job Description
CLASSIFICATION: Classified
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Ability and willingness to build relationships and develop rapport with students staff and families.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude while always exhibiting a problem-solving mindset.
- Unyielding commitment to the team and doing whats best for the students.
- Knowledge of all districts roads and bus routes.
- Knowledge of trade terminology.
- Basic math skills required.
- Ability to actively participate in group meetings with parents students and administration.
- Knowledge of equipment associated with a school bus; including lift equipment and two way radios.
- Ability to maintain an extremely demanding level of attention.
- Ability to be exposed to very loud noise levels.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or equivalent GED.
2. Requires 0 to 2 years of job related prior experience.
3. First Aid and CPR training.
4. Successful completion of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
drivers course required while employedin this position; i.e. retraining refresher
recertification.
5. Current CDL and School Bus Permit required.
6. Experience working with special education and high needs students preferred.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
JOB GOAL: Transport students to and from school and related functions. Inspect and maintain the school bus to ensureproper operating conditions.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Transport students of all ages to and from school and extra-curricular activities in asafe and timely manner.
2. Manage student behavior and maintain discipline on the bus.
3. Conduct and log pre-trip inspections to check for cleanliness safety propermechanical functions and adequate
fuellevels.
4. Maintain and track route data as mandated by school and state regulations.
5. Maintain CPR and First Aid Training.
6. Maintain the confidentiality of students discipline and medical records.
7. Report mechanical problems to District mechanic.
8. Attend monthly safety meetings and inservices as available.
9. Demonstrate the ability to communicate positively and constructively to parentsstudents administration and othersas
appropriate.
10. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by Transportation Supervisor and AssistantSuperintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 4 hours per day / 175 Days per year
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on
evaluation of classified personnel.
PHYSICAL MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk and sit. Additionally the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
