DescriptionThe Respiratory Therapy Assistant provides support for respiratory care services for the treatment of patients with disordered respiratory physiology under the direction of a registered respiratory therapist. Responsible for delivering varied oxygen devices on a timely basis. The respiratory therapy assistant performs hospital-wide rounds on a daily basis to monitor and provide service to patients using respiratory support devices. Supports the respiratory therapists nurses and physicians with their equipment/supplies needs work lists workload data throughout the Mayo complex. Serves in the department communications center and provides information management and data entry for department billing QA database and in support of research studies. Member of the hospital Code 45 team performing CPR as required. Staff at RMH performs 12 Lead EKGs.
Qualifications* Qualified applicants must be a current Mayo Clinic Respiratory Therapy student
Required Qualifications
- Minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND at least 3 years of experience in a direct patient care role;
OR
- Active enrollment in or graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Additional Qualifications
- Must be able to learn and perform CPR. CPR will be taught if not already BLS trained.
- Must have good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with a variety of individuals.
- Have strong independent problem-solving skills to respond to unpredictable situations.
- Maturity initiative commitment to patient and customer service and good judgment are required.
- Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment.
- Expected to follow proper precautions to avoid potential exposure to infectious agents hazardous substances noise and heat.
- Good manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to work with equipment.
- Must be able to differentiate medical life support gases.
- Previous knowledge of medical terminology/abbreviations helpful.
