BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: These are seasonal limited period positions based within the Wildlife Division that will work from one of our various Regional Headquarters around the state. This is professional services and scientific work at the technician level involving field work to support management of the States wildlife resources by protecting preserving and enhancing Maines natural resources statewide. This position will assist various Departmental Staff other State Agencies and the public to provide technical assistance for the resolution of human-wildlife conflict and wildlife disease surveillance. Work is performed under general supervision includes occasional night and weekend work and may be performed outside in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to) the following tasks:

  • Assists resource biologists game wardens with the resolution of human-wildlife conflict wildlife damage management and disease surveillance.
  • Conducts necessary sampling or tests and gathers information in accordance with Department policies through on-site field studies and/or surveys to record data.
  • Interprets explains and promotes agency management programs plans and policies to inform other resource agencies various interest groups and partner organizations.
  • Uses computer systems such as hardware software applications various databases and emerging technology to record process and report data.
  • Selects the necessary equipment needed to perform field work surveys samplings and biological investigations
  • Performs routine upkeep repair and maintenance of various vehicles equipment and gear

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in a natural sciences field and six months of biological related experience. Comparable work experience may be substituted for education requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Preference will be given to candidates that successfully demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
  • Strong commitment to working respectfully and collaboratively as part of a team dedicated to responsible management of Maines wildlife.
  • Experience resolving human-wildlife conflicts and use of damage management techniques.
  • Experience responding to sick injured or diseased wildlife.
