Sonrava Health was founded with the mission of making high quality oral healthcare accessible to all. Sonrava Health (with its supported affiliates Western Dental Brident Dental & Orthodontics Vital Smiles DentalWorks and Mid-Atlantic Dental Partners) has been expanding access to and equity of oral healthcare for nearly 120 years. Operating the most integrated system of oral healthcare in the nation the Company serves approximately 3 million patient visits annually across 572 affiliated offices in 20 states coast to coast from California to Maryland and border-to-border from Michigan to Texas. A full-service dental home Western Dental provides general dentistry pediatric dentistry orthodontics implants and oral surgery in offices designed to support consistent high-quality care that meets the needs of a diverse patient population.
The Legal Department provides strategic advice to Field Operations senior management and the Board of Directors on all legal and regulatory issues for the entire family of companies under Sonrava Health. The Legal Department also provides counsel to Sonrava Health business support departments including HR Finance and Accounting real estate billing and collections IT and procurement. The Associate General Counsel (AGC) play a key role in supporting the companys HR team on the full range of issues that may arise during employment. The AGC will also oversee all non-labor and employment-related litigation (except professional liability matters) and manage outside law firms both national and local who represent the Company. The AGC will also support the Company in its strategic relationships with suppliers and other vendors. The AGC will report to the President and Chief Legal Officer.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and oversight of employment litigation mediations EEOC matters and arbitration including harassment discrimination retaliation and wage and hour matters
- Provide advice on Human Resources policy creation and implementation
- Stay updated on employment-related legal and compliance topics to effectively mitigate risks
- Provide guidance regarding the entire employment lifecycle including hiring on-boarding performance management investigations of alleged employee misconduct and/or policy violations and terminations
- Prepare documents and contracts related to doctor employment terms and conditions
- Recommend implement and continuously improve employment law related training
- Draft review and negotiate strategic contracts with suppliers and vendors
- Assist in the selection and management of external legal counsel to ensure appropriate service and quality levels and to contain costs
Qualifications
- JD required and membership in good standing with CA State Bar
- Minimum 8 years labor and employment counseling and litigation experience in law firm or significant in-house counsel experience preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to identify risk and simplify complex legal issues for the business in a clear and concise manner
- Exceptional critical thinking ability with strong business acumen and excellent business judgment
- Demonstrated history of partnering and influencing business decisions/decision makers and providing strategic recommendations based on financial data and market analyses
- Problem resolution and analytical skills and the ability to interact well with all organizational levels
- Strong leadership skills and willingness to collaborate share knowledge respond quickly to urgent matters and execute proactively
- Strong personal ethical code and integrity and deep respect for privacy and confidentiality
