GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:



This position is a combination of technical and professional work. The primary tasks are permit requests reviewing construction plans performing inspections and assuring that all necessary documentation has been completed so that construction systems and other structures within the City of Lone Tree provide a safe and healthy environment for its citizens and the public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect residential commercial industrial multi-family residential and other buildings for compliance with the applicable codes during all phases of construction alteration and repair.

  • Review construction plans one-line diagrams and engineered designs for conformance with the adopted codes

  • Responsible for knowing the installation requirements specifications U.L. listings and manufactures standards for equipment devices and systems that are not defined with in the Codes.

  • Answer questions from homeowners architects engineers design professionals and contractors related to building plumbing and mechanical codes permitting process and inspection sequencing.

  • Indicate when changes or additional information is needed to meet the requirements of the code and contact the appropriate parties to fulfill compliance needs

  • Investigate complaints issue correction notices or stop work orders to ensure compliance with adopted codes.

  • Communicates and collaborates with other divisions departments jurisdictions and metro districts to ensure that all parties involved have been notified and/or approve of the issuance of the building permit or Certificate of Occupancy while fostering and maintaining professional relations with aforementioned organizations.

  • Remains consistent in assuming responsibility for ensuring that the process remains timely within the established divisions expectations for turnaround and customer service

  • Read maps or organizes inspection route to achieve 100% completion of requested inspections daily while meeting scheduled inspections times with homeowners and contractors to accommodate their schedules.

  • Assist in developing local amendments and regulations for adoption and administration.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE:



  • Demonstrates knowledge of the commercial residential mechanical plumbing electrical and energy codes as appropriate for the position

  • Is self-motivated to stay current and informed of new construction methods materials and safety procedures including national state and local code interpretations and regulations

  • Maintains ability to effectively communicate in a clear comprehensive and concise manner that is understandable to the customer through written and/or verbal means.

  • Self-monitors behavior to consistently set a high standard of professionalism and image to customers and peers demonstrating the ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel and visitors of the City of Lone Tree
  • Demonstrated personal effectiveness credibility thoroughness flexibility and collaboration skills



ABILITIES:



  • Applies principles of logical or technical thinking to define and resolve problems establish facts and draw a valid conclusion in the application of the adopted codes ordinances and applicable statutes.

  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to apply mathematical formulas fractions percentages ratios and proportions to specific project scenarios

  • Maintains ability to enter and transfer information among computer applications in an accurate and timely manner
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining a systematic approach to efficiency and effectiveness within a multi-task work environment

  • Ability to complete tasks with accuracy neatness and thoroughness within a specific time frame

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:



Work involves independent judgment within given guidelines and the responsibility to properly enforce the adopted Codes. The Codes usually require interpretation and individual judgment during the plan review and inspection process. The expectation of this position is to understand the scope of responsibility that this role entails and to seek advice and direction should any confusion or discrepancy arise.



QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:



  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • 5 years of experience in construction inspection education or related field
  • Hold 3 ICC certifications applicable to the position
  • A valid State drivers license
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint) skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:



This position has no direct supervisory authority.



Equipment Used Work Environment and Physical Activities:



  • Driving: Must be physically capable of operating motor vehicles safely in the normal course of assignments.
  • Office equipment: Daily use of a copier scanner and printer.
  • Computer equipment: Daily use of a personal computer MS Office software GIS software.
  • Other equipment: Periodic use of large format printers and copiers.
  • Language skills: Reads analyzes and interprets technical journals financial reports and legal document; writes technical and professional reports and correspondence and using proper spelling grammar and style; presents information and responds to questions from top management citizens and large groups.
  • Mathematical skills: Performs mathematical calculations including calculations using algebra geometry and/or trigonometry.
  • Reasoning ability: Defines problems collects data establishes facts and draws valid conclusions using a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Physical activities: Sits for long periods of time; may walk stand bend stoop reach climb carry and lift for varying periods. Requires continuous and repetitive arm-hand-eye movement.
  • Lifting: May involve lifting and/or moving up to 40 lbs. for short periods of time.
  • Vision and hearing: Must have visual acuity to see and read paper and electronic documents; must be able to answer telephones communicate conversation and respond to verbal inquiries.
  • Exposure to environmental conditions: Work in office setting and outside field work is required.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:



Work is a combination of office work onsite meetings and field work.

Full Time Non-exempt

Salary Range: $33.03 - $49.54 / hour

Hiring Range: $33.03 - $41.28 / hour
