POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Vice President of Research and Programs / Co-Director LeadingAge LTSS Center @ U Mass Boston provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Centers research agenda and programmatic initiatives aligning with LeadingAges strategic plan. The Senior Vice President of Research and Programs is a visionary thought leader capable of guiding future growth shaping the integration of the research and programmatic work areas where appropriate and ensuring relevance to the LeadingAge membership. This individual cultivates relationships with funders sponsors and other stakeholders that leads to bringing in new resources for the Centers research initiatives. This individual ensures that research is applied and conducted with a focus on creating an evidence-base for aging services policy and practice. This individual ensures that programs are developed that provide value to members.


As co-director of the LeadingAge LTSS Center @UMass Boston this individual will collaborate with the other co-director in identifying and developing proposed projects in conducting and/or overseeing the joint research activities and in guiding the work of students at UMass Boston connected to the Centers work.

This individual is a member of the senior team and is a spokesperson for the Associations research agenda and findings to other organizationsfoundationsand coalitions.

IN SUPPORT OF KEY ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY

This position supports LeadingAges strategy to support members across the continuum and advance the aging services workforce.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Contributes to the development of the Associations strategic plan including priority focus for research and programs.
  1. Fosters a strong and collaborative culture within the team that supports professional growth and development exploration of new opportunities and growth of cross-functional and external collaboration and partnerships including other LeadingAge teams LeadingAge state partners LeadingAge fellows external thought leaders potential fundersetc..
  1. Provides oversight of research agenda including overall direction to Center research staff that includes advising and providing guidance on proposal and budget preparation research design research partnerstimely production of proposals implementation of studies and production of deliverables.
  1. Seeks funding opportunities for new research and evaluation studies from a broad range of funders (e.g. government private foundations business sponsorship provider membersetc.). Supports sub-contractor partnerships as appropriate in research and programmatic work areas that are led and conducted by other organizations.
  1. Provides oversight and ensures thorough planningdevelopment and implementation of programmatic initiatives in LeadingAges priority areas ensuring effective coordination with LeadingAge state partnersmembers and other stakeholders.
  1. Serve as member of the LeadingAge LTSS Center @UMass Boston Steering Committee which offers strategic guidance to advance the Centers ongoing impact work priorities branding efforts communications strategies and new opportunities for growth and collaboration.
  1. Provides strategic and substantive input to LeadingAge as a member of the senior leadership team.
  1. In partnership with LeadingAges Communications and Marketing team and the support of contractors ensures the timely dissemination of the Centers project and programmatic results to a variety of audiences including LeadingAge members other LTSS providers researchers policymakers and other stakeholders using a media mix approach (such as web social media print and videos) in multiple formats including provider-friendly briefs toolkits reports peer reviewed journals books presentations and more.
  1. Coordinates all research efforts conducted by LeadingAge and ensures they are in line with LeadingAge priorities and Center research protocols and practices.
  1. Ensures that all research projects are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED

  • Doctorate level academic credentials and significant experience in conducting gerontological health services/long-term care applied research.
  • Proven ability to lead a diverse team cultivate a collaborative culture and support staff growth and development.
  • Must have at least 10 years of experience in managing and directing applied research projects and programmatic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience with program design and execution.
  • Demonstrated successful history in writing proposals and obtaining funding from government and/or private funders for research and program development.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and leading high-impact programs achieving measurable outcomes and effectively scaling if applicable.
  • Must be able to motivate staff and develop collaborative relationships in pursuit of common goals.

  • Must be able to translate technical research results into accessible written products and presentations to non-research audiences.
  • Must demonstrate strong intellectual curiosity ability to think analytically and display excellent written verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and efficiently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced work environment with ability to adjust to changing priorities quickly.
  • Must have experience engaging with key stakeholder groups aging services researchers and other stakeholders to represent LeadingAge and influence practice and policy with evidence-based options.

ADA SPECIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Ability to learn/translate/refer to large amounts of technical material and produce extensive communications.
  • Ability to travel to external meetings both locally and nationally including periodic overnight travel.
  • Normal work requires frequent use telephone and computer (monitor keyboard mouse).
  • Ability to be mobile at Annual Meeting;Leadership Summit Conference;and other meetings and events.
  • May be required to move about frequently in the office to access file cabinets office equipment attend meetings etc.
  • May require standing/sitting for prolonged periods of time during meetings and conferences.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this full-time (37.5-hour work week) exempt D.C. based position is ($241330 -$281551). Salary offered may vary depending on relevant factors as determined by LeadingAge which may include but are not limited to background and experience knowledge skills and abilities certifications and licensures internal equity geographic location and other organizational needs.

For full-time positions we offer:

  • Unlimited Vacation after successful completion of the introductory period; 15 hours of Volunteer Time; 22.5 hours of Personal Time.
  • Accrue12 days of sick leave per year to maximum of 60 days or 450 hours.
