What You Will Be Doing

As a Training Specialist 2 with the Learning & Development Program within the Division of Personnel you will be instrumental in:

  • Delivering professional training courses and workshops to State of Alaska employees using a variety of instructional techniques in both in-person and virtual environments. Courses include our flagship Supervisory Academy for new supervisors Workplace Civility Training and other HR-related offerings. Prior supervisory experience is beneficial when drawing from real-world scenarios to help new supervisors navigate personnel issues.
  • Partnering with departments statewide to scope design and deliver customized trainings such as team-specific sessions values development team-building workshops and leadership seminars.
  • Creating engaging SCORM-based learning content that is immersive and interactive allowing learners to practice new skills through applied activities and knowledge checks. Current tools include Articulate Rise and Storyline.
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for the Statewide Learning Management System (LMS) including creating training for users at all levels developing and implementing an administrator manual running reports and analyzing learning data.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

The Learning & Development team works in a hybrid environment that balances flexibility with connection. On telework days the team stays closely connected through frequent collaboration on Microsoft Teams ensuring communication creativity and teamwork remain strong no matter where work is happening. On in-person days the team shares a common workspace in the Atwood Building in the heart of downtown Anchorage creating opportunities for face-to-face collaboration and connection. With dining wellness and recreation options just steps away theres always something nearby to enjoy.

This position requires frequent travel within the State of Alaska (normally up to one week at a time however there may be a need a times to travel for up to two weeks).

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Training or education in training and development human resources education instructional design business administration social sciences or a related field;
AND/OR
Progressively responsible professional experience in developing delivering revising assessing and/or evaluating training needs and effectiveness; or human resources.

Special Note:
Competencies means a combination of interrelated knowledge skills abilities and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

Typically gained by means the prevalent usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
