Position Purpose & Overview

The Senior School Vice-Principal of Student Life involves monitoring and supporting students social emotional and pastoral needs across the school. This educator collaborates with faculty families and support services to promote student wellbeing and engagement in school life. Daily responsibilities include addressing attendance concerns managing behaviour support processes and responding to individual student matters. The role also contributes to the development of wellbeing initiatives and the maintenance of fostering a positive caring school culture


Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Student Life

  • Develop and monitor metrics to assess and improve student life and belonging experience.
  • Promote a culture of respect high standards of behaviour attendance and engagement.
  • Serve as the primary administrative contact for student social emotional and behavioural concerns.
  • Facilitate Student Life and Belonging team leadership including Athletics Outdoor Education and Experiential Learning.
  • Ensure co-curricular and extra-curricular supervision scope and sequence aligned with values and competencies.
  • Oversee the implementation and continuity of the advisory programme.


Operational Leadership

  • Support smooth day-to-day Senior School operations with the Senior School Principal and Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinators.
  • Manage Student Life budgets and scheduling (e.g. supervision co-curricular activities).
  • Contribute to communication with current and prospective families.
  • Lead program reviews and implement strategic initiatives.


Required Qualifications & Key Competencies

Education & Experience

  • A British Columbia Certification of Teaching (BCCT).
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Education degree (Masters in Education degree is considered an asset.)
  • 5 years of teaching experience at a Senior School level.
  • 2 years of education leadership experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate programmes.
  • Knowledge of the MYP and DP curriculum framework and core components.
  • Need to be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • A Basic First Aid Certificate is considered an asset.

  • Technical proficiency with Google Workspace and educational softwares such as Blackbaud.


This role will require working hours outside of school office hours: often evening events; occasionally going offsite to document student programs; and occasional morning and weekend commitments.

On rare occasions where there are urgent needs at the School an employee may be assigned to temporarily backfill role(s) critical to the schools operations and business continuity.

  • Role Performance and Outcomes:
    Pastoral matters are managed consistently and effectively with students receiving timely and appropriate support. There is clear evidence of positive student engagement improved wellbeing outcomes and accurate follow-up of attendance behaviour and care processes.

  • Cultural and Values Alignment:
    Demonstrates a strong commitment to the schools values in daily practice and contributes to a respectful inclusive school culture. Their conduct and decision-making reflect professionalism care and a genuine commitment to student wellbeing.

  • Competency Demonstration:
    The educator applies sound professional judgement and communicates clearly with students colleagues and families. They work collaboratively with teaching staff and support services and manage pastoral responsibilities with discretion and consistency.

  • Feedback and Relationships:
    Feedback from students families and colleagues reflects trust approachability and confidence in the educators role. Strong working relationships are established supporting effective pastoral care and positive outcomes for students.


Conditions of Employment

  • The candidate must have a valid BCCT.
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete child abuse prevention training concussion training Level 1 first-aid training provided by St. Johns School and provide consent for a criminal background check for the vulnerable sector.
  • Clearance on criminal record checks for vulnerable sector is a condition of employment
  • The ability to legally work in Canada in an educational setting is a condition of employment.


Job Information

  • Full-time permanent position.
  • Start date: August 24 2026
  • Work Location: on-site (2215 W 10th Avenue Vancouver BC)
  • Benefits Information: comprehensive benefits package including extended health and dental plans health spending account personal spending account RRSP Matching Critical Insurance and an Employee Assistance Program.
  • Annual Salary ranges from $67442 to $120860 based on the schools teacher 2025/26 salary grid. The annual salary ranges will be updated with the 2026/27 salary grid before the contract begins. Placement on the grid is assigned in accordance with level of education and years of teaching experience. Annual salary is prorated based on the length of the contract.
  • Vice-Principal stipend of $6500 (paid evenly through the year).
