Job Description:

University of Floridas Veterinary Community Outreach Program (VCOP) is recruiting for a Veterinary Technician to join their team centered around providing medical care to shelter and rescue animals. The program is designed to introduce students to the challenges of veterinary practice in both community and shelter environments and give experience in spay and neuter techniques plus preventative medicine of canines and felines. This position works closely with clinicians and students providing necessary care to adoptable pets. This is a fast-paced area with a strong teaching component. Technicians provide support by assisting veterinarians with exams treatments anesthesia and surgery as well as providing insight instruction and demonstration to veterinary students.

Example of Veterinary Technician Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Provide veterinary technician support for VCOP
Perform general nursing care such as venipuncture catheter placement patient restraint treatments medication administration and sample collection
Document in electronic medical records
Perform anesthetic nursing skills such as but not limited to intubation advanced anesthesia monitoring local and regional blocks
Accurately perform drug and fluid calculations
Ensure that patients are prepped for surgery in accordance with hospital standard in a timely fashion to keep the service flowing
Assemble surgical supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures
Maintain accurate anesthesia records
Monitor and maintain aseptic techniques

The service receives Monday - Friday. May require working earlier than 7:45am or later than 5:00pm
This is a full-time benefited position and is considered essential personnel. A post-offer education verification background check and health assessment are required.

Expected Salary:

Non-credentialed $18-22 Credentialed $20-25

Preferred

Graduate from an accredited American Veterinary Medical Association program for veterinary technology OR
Credentialed veterinary technician

This is a CARE position offering limited benefits including health insurance and paid time off. When appropriate certifications are achieved promotional opportunities to a level II title may be available. This position will also become eligible for transition into a TEAMS (staff) salary plan.
