BGMU is accepting applications for the position of Telecommunications Technician in the Fiber Division through April 17 2026. The successful applicant will be perform installation operations and maintenance of telephony and voice data services and will assist in the testing repair and maintenance of telecommunications services in the service area. Essential duties include:
- Analyzes customer phone and data networks and makes recommendations based on BGMU service offerings.
- Performs provisioning for customer VOIP/Broadband service requests.
- Analyzes network and wiring schematics and implements technical specifications based upon customer requirements.
- Uses test equipment to analyze repair and maintain broadband and VOIP circuits and equipment.
- Assists customers with troubleshooting assistance for Internet and VOIP Services
- Performs initial troubleshooting for Network Specialists and OSP then escalating appropriately.
- Assists in implementation and configuration of network elements being deployed.
- Performs testing and deployment of new hardware and software.
- Researches new VOIP and broadband technologies for potential consumer applications.
- Works with wholesale providers vendors and manufacturers on evaluation of products and technology related to telecommunications services.
- Keeps detailed records of system design construction and operation.
- Meets with internal and external customers as required.
- Assists Network Specialists and OSP with installs of network infrastructure & cabling.
- Handles warranties on customer premises including hosted phones routers switches & IADs
- Maintains inventory in billing system of all VOIP Equipment
- Maintains billing system for all VOIP services (phone numbers extensions circuit IDs etc)
- Performs other related work as required.
- May be subject to emergency after-hours availability.
This position requires knowledge of PBX systems and telephony infrastructure. Must be proficient with the application of telecommunications and fiber technology and its concepts practices and procedures. Must have knowledge of network infrastructure. Familiarity with TCP/IP and various other telecommunications protocols telnet services Adtran devices CISCO devices and Ethernet networking. Must be able to manage multiple projects make routine decisions problem solve and react under emergency situations. Requires knowledge of utility policies safety rules and state and local laws pertaining to operation of vehicles and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or graduate equivalency.
- One (1) year of field experience in telephony and voice data applications.
- An Associates degree in Networking or related field or a combination or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of VOIP experience.
