Want to see how money actually moves in a cityand build real-world skills you can put on your résumé The City of Falls Church Finance Department is looking for a motivated student intern whos curious about accounting budgeting and how local government works behind the scenes.
As a Finance & Accounting Intern youll get hands-on experience supporting the Citys day-to-day financial operations while learning how public-sector accounting really works. You wont just be observingyoull be contributing to meaningful projects that support the community.
About the City of Falls Church
Falls Church is an independent city just six miles from Washington D.C. With a population of about 16000 and a strong urban village feel were known for excellent customer service a nationally ranked school system environmental leadership and an active engaged community.
What Youll Do
Youll work alongside finance professionals and gain exposure to a wide range of accounting and budgeting activities including:
- Analyzing financial data to support budgeting and forecasting
- Helping prepare financial reports dashboards and presentations
- Assisting with expense tracking reconciliations and invoice processing
- Organizing and maintaining financial records
- Collaborating with other departments on special finance projects
- Converting the Citys annual budget book to an ADA-compliant format
- Supporting administrative and analytical tasks as needed
What Were Looking For
This internship is a great fit for a student who:
- Is detail-oriented organized and dependable
- Can handle confidential information professionally
- Is comfortable working with numbers spreadsheets and Microsoft Office
- Can juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Basic knowledge of finance or accounting is helpful but a willingness to learn is most important.
Who Should Apply
Students currently pursuing a degree in:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Business Administration
- Public Administration
- Or a related field
Fluency in English is required.
