Summary

A Flight Controls & Motion Engineering co-op is responsible for supporting the Flight Controls & Motion group in software design implementation & testing. The successful candidate will support developing and testing software solutions for real-time simulation applications using a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Working under close supervision and candidate is responsible for code test and documentation of flight controls autopilot stability control and motion control system software designs requiring the application of current industry design concepts and utilization of basic technical writing skills. Emphasis will be placed on supporting the groups engineers to meet program schedule performance budget. Assignments will be geared towards learning real-time programming techniques for flight simulation applications.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited Bachelors degree (or higher level) college/university program majoring in Aerospace Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Must be willing to learn new procedures and applications

  • Must have good diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

  • Must be detail-oriented

  • Must be customer service-oriented

  • Must have excellent communication skills

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems

  • Familiarity with C Ada or Python

  • Understanding of the concepts of digital machine control systems basic software engineering methodologies and tools.

  • Ability to read. analyze and interpret electrical & mechanical drawings technical procedures or governmental regulations

Security Responsibilities

Must complywith all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials in any form. Shall not divulge any information or afford access to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Work Environment

  • Duties performed in an office environment and manufacturing facility.

  • Must be able to work overtime on and off-shifts as required.

  • The employee is on call 24x7 for the resolution of problems and issues.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • May be required to sit down for long lengths of time.

  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator

  • Must be able to perform effectively as part of the project team.

  • Must be able to use small tools and test equipment to assist technicians with control system rigging and measurement.

  • Physical dexterity is required due to space limitations working in and around real and simulated cockpit environments.
