Kubernetes Platform Engineer

Were looking for a Kubernetes Platform Engineer to join our team supporting the U.S. Air Forces Platform One Big Bang this role you will help design operate and continuously improve a secure consumable Kubernetes platform that enables mission software teams to deploy and operate applications efficiently across complex environments. You will work closely with platform engineers developers and security teams to deliver cloud-native infrastructure and tooling aligned with DoD DevSecOps objectives.

We are hiring for fully remote positions with optional quarterly travel to San Antonio TX or Colorado Springs CO for in-person collaboration with the product team.

In this position you can expect to:

• Design deploy and operate highly available scalable and secure Kubernetes clusters and supporting infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain a consumable platform of open-source cloud-native applications and tooling for mission software teams.
• Build and enhance automation frameworks to streamline platform deployment upgrades and day-to-day operations.
• Collaborate with development teams to architect and support CI/CD pipelines and workflows for containerized applications.
• Implement and enforce Kubernetes security best practices including RBAC network policies secret management and security hardening.
• Support complex Kubernetes use cases including edge deployments and environments with intermittent connectivity.
• Perform capacity planning resource optimization and performance tuning to ensure efficient platform utilization.
• Partner with security teams to identify remediate and prevent vulnerabilities through audits and continuous improvement.
• Evaluate emerging Kubernetes features tools and technologies recommending enhancements to improve platform reliability and usability.
• Document platform architectures configurations and operational procedures to support knowledge sharing and long-term sustainability.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker including deploying managing and scaling containerized workloads.
• Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture and core components such as pods services deployments replica sets and namespaces.
• Proficiency with scripting and automation tools (e.g. Bash Python Ansible Terraform).
• Strong Linux/Unix systems administration and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience deploying and operating applications on cloud platforms such as AWS Azure or Google Cloud.
• Solid understanding of networking storage and security concepts as they apply to Kubernetes environments.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and workflows (e.g. Jenkins GitLab CI) and version control systems such as Git.
• Experience with monitoring logging and alerting in Kubernetes environments (e.g. Prometheus Grafana ELK stack).
• Strong analytical problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Experience operating Kubernetes clusters in production or multi-tenant environments is a plus.
