Reports To: Director of the Tribunal

Schedule: 25 hours a week

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Part Time

Summary: The Case Coordinator will monitor a case load; assess cases; support communication with all persons related to cases; audit testimony for cases; and make recommendations to the Judge regarding all phases of each case as assigned. Duties will be performed competently and compassionately in a synodal spirit.

Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

* Maintains a case load as assigned and handles communication and documentation related to assigned cases.

* Assists with the intake of new petitions.

* Serves as an Auditor for cases collecting (and transcribing if necessary) testimony from Petitioners Respondents Witnesses and Submitting Ministers as assigned.

* Provides status updates on cases to the parties submitting ministers parish clergy and delegated parish staff (typically RCIA Directors).

* Makes oral presentations of the facts of a case and evidence or lack thereof pertaining to the grounds.

* Writes case briefs incorporating all testimony and documentary evidence to be used to investigate the marriage for a possible Declaration of Nullity.

* Serves as or supports the Advocate(s) for cases maintaining contact with one of the parties to explain the purpose of each phase of the investigation the rights of each party and options available to the party at each phase as assigned.

* Participates in periodic and annual auditing of cases.

* Receives and responds appropriately to feedback from the Judicial Vicar and the Director regarding the instruction of cases and case management.

* Actively participates in Tribunal Staff Meetings and Diocesan gatherings.

* Actively engages in formation opportunities provided to the Tribunal Staff and as needed assists with duties in support of formation events.

Actively provides support for Pastoral Outreach including Tribunal Workshops in parishes and deaneries throughout the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

As needed assists the Judicial Vicar and the Director of the Tribunal with the management of inter-diocesan prenuptial packets. This includes preparing correspondence for the Judicial Vicar and working with parishes and external dioceses to locate needed information and/or documents for prenuptial packets.

As needed supports efforts to meet Rogatory Requests to include contacting Parties and Witnesses involved in cases from external dioceses collecting (and transcribing if necessary) testimony and communicating with external dioceses.

As needed contacts individuals and/or government and religious institutions to locate needed information and/or documents for case investigations.

As needed enters new case records and updates existing case records in CaseMaster.

As needed prepares routine correspondence through CaseMaster.

As needed and only if qualified by academic credentials and/or professional experience occasionally serves as Peritus (expert) on cases involving psychological or cultural matters.

As needed assists the Judicial Vicar and the Director of the Tribunal with the handling of deposits and check requests.

Works closely with the Judicial Vicar and the Director of the Tribunal to support the priorities as well as effectively responding to the exigent demands of the ministry of the Tribunal.

* Maintains and promotes an understanding and awareness of cultural and diversity issues.

Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self others.

* Takes responsibility for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information services rendered to clients donors names and gifts internal and external investigations or results of any investigations and financial information.

Adheres to the Code of Conduct and Faith and Moral Policy which is mandatory.

Takes a solution-oriented approach in interactions and undertakings as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the Archdiocese of San Antonio as is required of all Archdiocesan personnel.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in theology philosophy social work psychology or related field.

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in parish ministry social work or other pastoral ministry.
  • Fluent in Spanish other languages also beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience serving in a Tribunal

A knowledge of psychodynamics of relationships and civil/ecclesial law is helpful but not required.

Masters degree in Theology Pastoral Ministry and/or a Canon Law degree.

Knowledge and practice of Catholic faith preferred

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with email word processing telephone and other standard office applications and equipment.
  • Must be able to learn to use and adapt to changes in industry-specific software and productivity tools.
  • Must be detail oriented organized self-motivated work well independently and on a team.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have good critical thinking and-problem solving skills.
