Position Purpose & Overview
St. Johns School (SJS) is seeking a qualified and experienced School Bus Driver. This is a casual on-call position. The School Bus Driver will provide school bus services to students on weekday mornings to school and for extracurricular activities. They are responsible for the safe transport of students and staff members in the Schools owned vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities and duties are inclusive of but not limited to:
- Perform pre- and post trip safety inspection of the school buses according to school guidelines and government transportation regulations; ensures the school buses are mechanically sound.
- Plan driving routes in collaboration with the Manager Facilities & Transportation.
- Ensure school buses are fuelled and thoroughly cleaned.
- Safely transport school bus passengers to desired destinations on a schedule:
- Mornings: pick up students and staff along the predetermined route bringing them to the School
- On an as-needed basis: drive staff and students on field trips extra-curricular activities sports events.
- Occasional on-call: unscheduled transportation needs or emergencies.
- Ensure that students follow appropriate behavioural and safety standards while on the bus and assist students with getting on and off the bus when required.
- Abide by traffic laws and report accidents immediately; seek help from police in emergency situations.
Required Qualifications & Key Competencies
Education & Experience
- Clean drivers abstract
- Unrestricted Class 2 BC Commercial License with Air Brake Endorsement to drive a school bus.
- A good knowledge of Metro Vancouver geography locations roads and traffic patterns.
- Previous bus driving experience and experience with using air brakes.
- Demonstrated safe driving history as represented by a Drivers Abstract ICBC.
- Need to be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- A Basic First Aid certificate is considered an asset.

- A motivated collaborative and enthusiastic team player.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
- Demonstrated appropriate level of caution and care when transporting students mindful of weather and road conditions.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and respond to on-call driving needs.
This role will require working hours outside of school office hours: often evening events; occasionally going offsite to document student programs; and occasional morning and weekend commitments.

It should be understood that the activities responsibilities and obligations of this position may be modified from time to time through discussion between the direct supervisor and the employee in order to effectively meet the requirements of the School. On rare occasions where there are urgent needs at the School an employee may be assigned to temporarily backfill role(s) critical to the schools operations and business continuity.
Conditions of Employment
- The successful candidate will be required to complete child abuse prevention training concussion training Level 1 first-aid training provided by St. Johns School and provide consent for a criminal background check for the vulnerable sector.
- Clearance on criminal record checks for vulnerable sector is a condition of employment
- The ability to legally work in Canada in an educational setting is a condition of employment.
Job Information
- Casual part-time permanent position starting as soon as possible.
- Work Location: on-site.
- Hourly pay of $31.80 - $32.91 based on experience.
- 4% vacation pay
