American Iron & Metal (AIM) is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Groundsman / Operator to join our Rail Team in Montréal-Est Québec from Monday to Friday 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In this role you are responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car switching services working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic and great communication skills.
We are currently looking for motivated individuals to join our team You will work under the supervision of the foreman in the reception movement and preparation of railcars on site.
What youre responsible for:
- Ensuring safe operation of the locomotive and train movements
- Ability to carry out specific instructions detailing a trains route and specific movements
- Perform switching of railcars including coupling and uncoupling cars and is able to lift out coupling devices
- Signaling crew members for movement of the engine or train using a radio to indicate when to start stop back-up set or release air brakes
- Having the ability to move on and off moving or stationary equipment while the train is in motion during yard switching
- Riding moving rail cars using the ladder on the side for extended amount of periods of time
- Carry out other related tasks as required by operational needs or supervisor directives.
Qualifications :
To join our team:
- You have previous experience as a groundsman OR working within a rail team is preferred
- You have excellent teamwork skills and clear communication
- You are physically fit including the ability to pull oneself up and down from a railcar continuously
- You are able to lift (50lbs) and twist air hoses secure rail car brakes derails and switches
- You are proactive with the ability to take action/assess a situation with teams safety paramount
- You are comfortable with physically demanding work in all-weather conditions
- You have experience in a manufacturing environment and in operating heavy equipment (loaders cranes shuttle trains)
