General Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the local superintendent the principal assumes administrative responsibility and overall instructional leadership for the public school assigned including the discipline of students and the planning operation supervision and evaluation of the educational program of the school.

Qualifications:

1. Masters degree in Education from an accredited educational institution.
2. Possess or qualify to possess a valid New Mexico Educational Administrative License.
3. Minimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience.
4. Prior administrative experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting standing lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.) reaching squatting kneeling and possible Mandt restraint.

Supervision

Under broad supervision this position supervises Instructional Reading Specialist and a Math Coach all full time and part time building staff (including teachers) *nurse office and technical employees counselors *ancillary staff *lunchroom supervisors substitute teachers student teachers program directors *cooks and *custodians ( * implies a sharing of supervision).

Performance Responsibilities:

In addition to other duties prescribed by law the school principal shall:

1. Recommend to the local superintendent the employment promotion transfer discharge and termination of school employees at the assigned school with appropriate documentation;
2. Evaluate the performance of school employees and develop professional development plans or job improvement plans to assist school employees to improve;
3. Take disciplinary action against school employees;
4. Gives leadership to development and improvement of the instructional programs.
5. Manage and develop a proposed budget for the public school with input from the school council and submit it to the local superintendent;
6. Engages team leaders.
7. Holds staff accoutable for school performance.
8. Cooperates with all appropriate administrative personnel teaching staff parents students and others in assuring the best education for all pupils and coordinate efforts to this end.
9. Enforce all laws and rules applicable to the school district or educational program of the state agency;
10. Exercise supervision over students on property belonging to the public school;
11. Furnish all reports as required;
12. Comply with state approved Code of Ethics of the educational profession.
13. Perform other duties assigned by the local superintendent to implement policies of the local school board.
