West Island School is seeking aFull-Time Teacher of Music on atwo-year contract starting August 2026 renewable by mutual agreement. We are looking for a creative and inspiring educator who can engage students in a diverse music curriculum. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in Media & Film Visual Arts Dance and Drama contributing to a vibrant and dynamic Creative Arts faculty. Any additional disciplines the candidate can teach will be considered a valuable asset as we look to introduce inter-disciplinary units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging lessons in Music education for students across various age groups following the MYP iGCSE and IB curricula.
  • Develop and implement coursework that aligns with these programs focusing on musical theory performance and composition.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Creative Arts faculty to enhance the overall curriculum and integrate cross-disciplinary projects.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress in line with program expectations providing constructive feedback to support their growth.
  • Utilize inquiry-based learning strategies to foster student engagement and creativity in music.

Pastoral Care

  • Serve as a form tutor/home room teacher to a group of approximately 30 students supporting their holistic development through pastoral work

Extra-Curricular Contributions

  • Actively participate in extra-curricular events and activities either through personal interests or in support of student-led initiatives.

Educational Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Music Education or a relevant subject with a PGCE or PGDE (Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma of Education) or equivalent.
  • Willingness to develop skills across various aspects of music education and the Creative Arts.
  • Strong commitment to inclusion and effective differentiation in teaching.
  • Evidence of involvement in extra-curricular programs.
  • Newly Qualified Teachers are encouraged to apply provided they meet the majority of the requirements.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience teaching various musical instruments and understanding musical theory.
  • Familiarity with the integration of technology in music education including software for music production and composition.
  • Knowledge of current trends in music education such as the use of AI and digital tools for composition and analysis.
  • Experience with MYP iGCSE and IB curricula related to music education.
