Job Title: VALTS Distance Learning Facilitator
Department: Alternative Education
Education Level and Certification: The VALTS Distance Learning Facilitator must have a high school diploma preferred associates degree or two years of college demonstrating their ability to assist with instruction in reading writing and math. This is a 185-day position.
Reports To: Director of Alternative Education
Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks
To help plan organize and implement the VALTS Distance Learning program at our Southern Satellite location in Sidney. This position will help guide and encourage our students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Alternative Education.
- In coordination with the VALTS teachers plan prepare and deliver lesson instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Instruct and monitor students individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Manage student behavior and discipline in the classroom by establishing and enforcing administration policies rules and procedures.
- Supervise students in classrooms hallways field trips and all other educational settings.
- Observe students performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers using lectures discussions or supervised role-playing methods.
- Organize and label materials and display students work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.
- Distribute tests and homework assignments and collect them when they are completed.
- Attend staff meetings parent meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Prepare lesson materials bulletin board displays exhibits equipment and demonstrations.
- Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories and assist students with hardware and software use.
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural economic and ability backgrounds.
- Must maintain at all times during employment an unrestricted motor vehicle operators license obtain a school bus permit as required by state and federal laws and a satisfactory driving record that meets requirements of Board policy.
- Encourage parent and community involvement obtain information for parents when requested promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Directors designee.
Working Conditions
- Inside heated and air conditioned classroom.
- Outside for activities with students and student supervision.
- Exposure to incidents of aggression when working with students with behavioral impairments.
At-Will Position. This position is an at-will position and may be terminated with or without cause at any time in the sole discretion of the ESU 13 Administrator or ESU 13 Administrators designee.
