General Summary:
The Financial Specialist will have direct responsibility for the preparation of standard financial monitoring reports grant contract and clinical trial agreements including tracking project expenditures and commitments forecasting salary expenses personnel distributions cost transfers and outgoing subaward and consultant payments. This position will also be responsible for assisting PIs and Divisions with processing transactions and supporting the Research Financial Portfolio Managers in creating portfolio reports for PIs.
Essential Job Functions:
Prepare standard financial status reports including actual budget-to-actual projections and research portfolio summary reports.
Communicate accurate and timely financial data to assigned PIs sponsors and other divisional/departmental administration.
Prepare ad hoc financial data reports as needed.
Support Research Financial Portfolio Managers with day-to-day financial oversight assistance and financial administration of grants contracts clinical trials and other internally funded support.
Work with Research Financial Portfolio Managers PIs and/or administrators to prepare and initiate expenditures cost transfers budget transfers and cost sharing requests as needed.
Process Manne Chart String expenditure allocations Northwestern Core expenditure invoices and reconcile Tango gift card logs to replenishment requests.
Assist Research Financial Portfolio Managers with tasks required for accurate financial reporting reconciling.
The Financial Specialist will have direct responsibility for the preparation of standard financial monitoring reports grant contract and clinical trial agreements including tracking project expenditures and commitments forecasting salary expenses personnel distributions cost transfers and outgoing subawards final expenditures financial award closeout and management of grant accounts as needed.
Monitor sub-award total obligated amounts and track and route invoices received from outgoing subawards against obligations to ensure requests do not exceed executed subaward total amounts and timely payment as required by federal regulation. Work with Research Financial Portfolio Manager to identify and rectify compliance and financial issues.
Coordinate with AR Specialist and Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager to submit all requests for additional information by award sponsors and audits.
Actively participate as a member of the Sponsored Research Finance Office team to help assure the accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives.
Perform job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients families donors volunteers co-workers and others.
Other job functions and special projects as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Bachelors degree in business administration required and/or any equivalent combination of training education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Minimum of three year of work experience involving grant/research administration combined with experience with legal terminology reviewing detailed legal documents and language relevant to post-award administration and/or accounting related experience to include tracking and reconciling accounts.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team and follow through on assignments with minimal direction required.
Ability to work accurately with detailed information required.
Ability to handle high volume of work with changing priorities and constant interruptions and establish priorities and deadlines required.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing complex technical issues in a clear concise manner to individuals with little or no technical background required.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet required.
Ability to Prioritize organize and assess work in order to meet aggressive deadlines and cope in fast-paced environment required.
Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative tactful effective and harmonious working relationships with co-workers supervisors Lurie and Northwestern administrators and sponsors required.
Capable of working in a diverse multi-disciplinary team and interacting with all levels of the organization required.
Knowledge of Workday software or similar ERP software preferred.
Working Conditions:
Works in office setting with normal office lighting.
Spends several hours a day at a computer/video display terminal.

Pay Range
$54600.00-$89273.60 SalaryAt Lurie Childrens we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity reflecting individual contributions experience and expertise.
