This position works out of our Ottawa Ontario location in the Point of Care Diagnostics division. Were empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day more than 10 million tests are run on Abbotts diagnostics instruments providing lab results for millions of people.

Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas including infectious disease cardiometabolic informatics and toxicology.

What Youll Do

Were searching for a highly motivated science or engineering student preferably with a background in chemical analysis or medical diagnostics to join the R&D Development team at Abbott Point of Care Canada. The successful candidate will assist with verification and validation activities process improvements or investigation activities for innovative point of care diagnostic test cartridges as part of the i-STAT System.

Required Qualifications

  • Full-time registration in an undergraduate BSc / BASc degree program in Chemistry Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering (3rd or 4th year student preferred)
  • Hand-on laboratory experience including designing executing and documenting experiments and studies
  • Fast learner with a willingness/ability to innovate and problem solve
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Minimum GPA of B or equivalent
  • Strong verbal and written communication/documentation skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of math and statistics good computer skills knowledge of statistical software programs such as SAS JMP or Minitab is an asset
  • Knowledge of electrochemical sensors and detection is an asset
  • Four-month term
