The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is hiring a Term Assistant Professor of Power Technology in Juneau. This full-time term-funded faculty position teaches and mentors students in diesel marine and mining systems at the UAS Technical Education Center. The Power Technology program trains students to diagnose repair and maintain heavy equipment and diesel engines. The anticipated start date for this vacancy is January 2026.

The Term Assistant Professor of Power Technology will teach courses that prepare students for skilled work in Alaskas diesel marine and mining industries. Courses may include Diesel Engines Diesel Fuel Systems Advanced Hydraulics Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Heavy Duty Power Trains Heavy Duty Suspension and Alignment Preventative Maintenance and Inspection.

This position is located in Juneau at the UAS Technical Education Center a facility equipped for hands-on technical training. Faculty responsibilities include classroom and lab instruction advising students maintaining safety and shop standards supporting recruitment and collaborating with local employers to align instruction with current industry needs.

You should have substantial hands-on experience with diesel hydraulics and power systems and a strong commitment to helping students develop technical skills and professionalism. The ideal candidate is a skilled technician and instructor who values safety collaboration and real-world learning. Experience training apprentices or mentoring in an industrial or educational setting is a plus as is familiarity with diagnostic software and current industry standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must hold at least an Associate or Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology Power Technology or a closely related field to qualify for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. Significant directly related industry experience may substitute for education at the Instructor rank.

Applicants should bring a minimum of five years of professional journey-level experience in automotive diesel or heavy-equipment technology and maintain current relevant certifications for the field. A valid drivers license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast campus in Juneau. This is a full-time 9-month term faculty appointment complete with both a competitive salary andfull employee benefits package.
