At the Faculty of Engineering and Science AAU Energy a position as Assistant Professor in Digital TwinBased Modelling of Integrated Energy Hubs with Heat Symbiosis is open for appointment April 1 2026 or soon hereafter. The position is a full-time position for 1 year.
Your work tasks
The research will focus on the development of digital twin models for heating networks real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing of integrated energy systems. The candidate is expected to have a solid understanding of system monitoring experimental data management and validation of thermal systems as well as knowledge to support activities related to optimization methods across integrated energy systems and energy markets.
The position is offered in relation to the research group iGRIDS- Intelligent Energy systems and Flexible Markets and the Assistant Professor will be positioned in the section for Thermal Engineering. Research areas will be within integrated energy systems data-driven and physics-based approaches for smart heating infrastructures and digital tools supporting operational decision-making in flexible energy systems.
The position is researchfocused and does not include teaching obligations.
Your competencies
The position requires strong technical competencies in real-time modelling digital twin development and the integration of thermal and electrical energy systems. The candidate should be able to work experimentally with hardwareintheloop platforms manage and validate data from thermal systems and contribute to optimization activities across multienergy systems and energy markets. Additionally the ability to develop clear and functional visualization dashboards is expected.
The successful candidate should have experience or strong interest in the following areas:
The applicant must have a relevant background within energy engineering thermal engineering mechanical engineering electrical energy systems or a closely related field.
The candidate should be prepared to teach in Danish in the future as bachelor-level courses are primarily offered in Danish. Skills in Danish will therefore be positively evaluated. Danish is a prerequisite to have an academic career at Aalborg University if Danish proficiency is not already present the candidate will be expected to demonstrate an active effort to learn Danish should the employment be extended.
Qualification requirements
Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.
