Job Summary

The Mayors Office is hiring a videographer to plan shoot and edit compelling longform and shortform video content that tells Edmontons story supports public communications and performs strongly across social platforms.

The successful candidate understands storytelling the importance of brand social media platform needs and trends and can deliver highquality work independently in a fastpaced political/municipal environment.

What will you do

  • Produce endtoend video projects:
    • Concepting preproduction shooting directing editing audio mixing captions/subtitles and delivery
  • Rapidly capture and edit timely content during events meetings site visits and media opportunities
  • Ensure accessibility and compliance (captioning branding Protection of Privacy Act/municipal guidelines consent for filming)
  • Maintain organized file structures and deliver content in required formats and timelines
  • Working with the communications and outreach team create a mix of longform videos (documentarystyle profiles community profiles explainer videos) and shortform content for social media including speeches event coverage and optimized for platform and audience
  • Training and/or education in professional videography/production
  • A minimum of three years experience in professional videography/production

Assets:

  • Experience working in government political offices or public affairs
  • Experience with live streaming and multicamera events
  • Photography skills and ability to produce still assets for social media
  • Experience managing contractors or external production partners
  • Some experience with graphic design

Skills required for success:

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Experience and knowledge using video photography and audio equipment and editing software
    • Strong knowledge of video production and post-production workflows including color grading sound design and visual effects
    • Expert camera and lighting skills and strong audio capture and mixing experience; maintain gear and media assets
    • Advanced computer skills and familiarity with Google applications including Docs Sheets and Slides
    • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of photo editing and graphic illustration software including Adobe Creative Suite Photoshop InDesign
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • Excellent storytelling and visual composition skills; strong sense of pacing for different formats
    • Confident with interviewing subjects and the ability to gain their trust quickly to help them feel comfortable in an interview setting; the willingness to listen learn and lead with empathy
    • Exceptionally strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the Corporation and with key interest holders
    • Adaptability to working in dynamic and ambiguous situations
  • Organizational Abilities:
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to plan and prioritize work independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • Digital Content and Strategy:
    • Demonstrated ability to write clear clean and compelling copy including video scripts speaking points and social media content
    • Understanding of how digital content is shared and amplified through social media platforms and the ability to help others understand this including native features aspect ratios length constraints captioning and optimization strategies
    • Knowledge of best practices and relevant trends in social media in order to find new and innovative ways of connecting our audiences
    • Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( a culture of equity diversity reconciliation and inclusion

Conditions of Employment:

  • Candidates are asked to provide a portfolio demonstrating both longform and shortform work with measurable social performance
  • Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the candidate to obtain business-use auto insurance

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week; this role will occasionally work flexible hours evenings or weekends for events and travel within the region

Salary Range: $38.232 - $48.063 (Hourly); $67355.23 - $84674.99 (Annually)
