Job Summary

Department:SCC Adult Education/GED

Salary Information: This is a full-time tenure track position with an entry level base salary (for a 175-day academic year contract) of $71096 - $108630 annually. Future advancement in base salary up to the current maximum of $108630 is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.

Annual salary is comprised of base salary plus any combination of academic year overload contracts summer effort contracts project stipends student club advising stipends and/or department chair program lead faculty stipends consistent with the provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement between Spokane Colleges and the Association for Higher Education (AHE).

We seek an energetic and creative faculty member who is passionate about teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds and who demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting students from historically underserved populations. The successful candidate will actively engage in the division college and district through teaching collaboration and leadership. This position may include instruction across multiple areas within Adult Basic Education including High School GED Preparation College Prep Career Transitions Skilled Trades Preparation and I-BEST. Teaching assignments will be based on divisional need and may involve a variety of instructional modalities. This position is based in Spokane Washington with an expectation of a strong on-campus presence.

Spokane Community College part of Spokane Colleges serves 15000 students with career technical liberal arts and adult education programs in Spokane and surrounding rural communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares for and instructs through in-person hybrid and online modalities in the discipline of Adult Basic Education. Examples of the types of courses typically assigned may include but not limited to pre-college subjects: English math science social studies college readiness and digital literacy. Assignments will be based in Spokane and scheduled according to the assigned class time modality and class location.
  • Provides one-on-one academic consulting and support for students in a mannerappropriate tomeet student needs through a combination of scheduled office hours email accessibility and other effective means of responsive andtimelycommunication.
  • Communicates expectations andestablishesclear grading criteria throughappropriate instructionalmeans to include but not limited to developing course syllabi handouts and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides cleartimelyfeedback.
  • Develops curriculum to meet the needs of the program.
  • Participates in district division department and faculty meetings which include in-service training workshops or seminars service on district or college councils or committees or other activities within the scope of the position.
  • Creates a teaching learning and working environment that supports all students.
  • Complies withstate and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities. Follows established procedures in areas such as printing submitting gradesattendance reporting BEdA (Basic Education for Adults) reporting office support safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
  • Modelsprofessional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
  • Complies withdistrict policy procedures and directives state and federal regulations orders statute and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Supports and advances the Spokane Colleges strategicplan.
  • Performother duties as assigned.
  • In addition faculty may:
    • Supervise paraprofessional employees or direct the work of assigned work-study students.
    • Ensure assigned staff adhere to acceptable behavior andperformance standards. Inform assigned staff how behavior and performance will be assessed receivetimelyandaccuratefeedbackregardingperformance and ensure that any observed performance and behavioral problems are corrected promptly.
    • Advisestudent clubs or associations.
    • Conduct CASAS pre-and post-assessmentsin accordance withprogram andstateassessment policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned mastersdegree from an accredited institution.
  • Previousexperience equivalent to two full academic years of teaching.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals including historically underrepresented non-traditional economically disadvantaged first-generation and/or people with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of inclusive teaching practicefor students from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in collaborative environments including committee work mentoring or program coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum and/or training and assessment.
  • Experience using technology-based instructional tools and effective online communication (video conference platforms and learning management software).
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission values goals and objectives of Spokane Colleges.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws regulations and goals of the institution community and technical college system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching learning and working environment that honors diversity equity and inclusion.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three or more academic years of teaching experience.
  • An earned masters degree in Adult Education Education English or Math from an accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching English or math.
  • Demonstrated experience in instructional innovation and various teaching modalities including online.
  • Instructional design experience.
  • Experience with outcome assessment.
