DescriptionThe Manager Risk Management (RN preferred) oversees the operational and personnel functions of the hospitals Risk Management department. This role ensures effective implementation of risk management strategies to minimize exposure to loss and liability while promoting patient safety quality care and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is a Registered Nurse with hospital experience bringing clinical insight to support risk assessment staff education and incident management.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and evaluate departmental performance addressing operational variances to achieve risk management and quality goals.
- Develop implement and maintain risk management policies procedures and standards that align with the hospitals mission and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical departments to identify and resolve risk-related issues and support new initiatives.
- Manage risk assessments incident investigations and internal reporting of potential and actual risks ensuring timely resolution.
- Educate hospital staff on risk management protocols patient safety initiatives and incident reporting to promote a culture of safety and compliance.
- Oversee the investigation and defense of claims and legal matters providing accurate and timely responses.
- Support budget planning resource allocation and compliance for risk management activities.
- Maintain regular attendance and comply with all hospital policies and standards.
Leadership Responsibilities:
Supervision and Staff Management
- Provide mentorship guidance and professional development for departmental staff.
- Manage staff schedules and consult with hospital leadership on staffing needs.
- Conduct performance evaluations set goals and provide feedback to enhance team performance.
Strategic Planning and Financial Oversight
- Develop and manage departmental budgets to ensure cost-effective operations while maintaining high-quality service.
- Evaluate and implement technologies and processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Establish and maintain policies procedures and protocols that optimize quality and efficiency.
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure hospital compliance with regulatory bodies and accreditation standards (e.g. Joint Commission).
- Participate in audits inspections and accreditation processes to maintain or exceed industry standards.
- Apply quality control practices to ensure accuracy consistency and patient safety.
Collaboration and Communication
- Partner with hospital leadership and interdisciplinary teams to improve service delivery and patient outcomes.
- Stay current with industry advancements regulatory changes and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred
- Bachelors degree in Nursing Healthcare Administration Risk Management or related field required or four (4) years of equivalent hospital experience.
- Masters degree preferred.
- 24 years of leadership experience in healthcare or hospital risk management preferred.
- Experience in hospital patient care clinical operations quality or regulatory compliance strongly preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary hospital teams.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance patient safety standards and hospital operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Google Workspace healthcare software and data analysis tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic hospital environment.
Licenses and Certifications:
- RN license preferred
- CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management) preferred
